Re: Country clubs etc

No. Never heard of it. And from your description, I have no interest in it.

Is it somewhere that someone looking for a “high-end” “country-club” would find welcoming? That is, a dullard?

Re: Country clubs etc

Try The Cliff restaurant. The food is excellent. I recommend the linguine as a starter. Best linguine I’ve ever had in any restaurant in Barbados.

Chances that you’ll see a black person there...

Re: Country clubs etc

Right. Understood. Fascinating. For dinner last Saturday we had an extremely senior government official (with spouse), the Guyanese lady who cleans my house, four members of the diplomatic corps...

Re: Country clubs etc

But surely they would have taken you at Keble? Or Hilda’s? Catherine’s? I have to concede that at Merton or St. John’s, for example, they would have rejected you out of hand if you’d...

Re: Country clubs etc

Which university were you at, in fact? If it was one of those ghastly little provincial places, I’m afraid you’ll find little comfort here. But surely even red brick universities have some sort...

Re: Country clubs etc

No offence taken at all. On the contrary, a pleasure to correspond with you.

I don’t think I’ve seen the word “set” used in the same context as your use of it since I last tried to get...

Re: Country clubs etc

I mean absolutely no offence by this so please don’t take any, but your original post and your follow-ups here were so truly exceptional for this board that I suspected you might be taking the...

Re: Can you clip a cat?

Very good to know, bimchick. Many thanks. I needed exactly that kind of confirmation. I think it'll make the little guy happier.

Re: Kittens

Bimchick:

In normal circumstances I’d take them in a heartbeat, but at the moment I’m feeding my own plus a mother-and-son stray-family combo who have decided to live on my deck. Price Smart...

Re: Can you clip a cat?

Many thanks to Zanne, Foxy and Poppy for input. I’d been genuinely concerned about this. I work at home, and watching the guy be miserable all day had upset me.

I think I’ll buy one of those...

Can you clip a cat?

Folks,

First, I’m sorry about the bizarre question. I’ve looked on the internet and I get conflicting responses. I talked to a vet here and he didn’t make sense. He didn’t seem to know...

Re: same-day british newspapers :)

Damian,

Just saw this post. This sounds like something I’d definitely be interested in. Since you seem to be the owner of Newspaper Direct, could you tell me something? In what format is the...

Re: why is Barbados the best place to live?

Thanks for that, F. It was helpful.

I’d already been considering switching from Sunbeach to Pomegranate (or whatever Cable and Wireless is calling itself this month).

Truth to tell, on...

Re: why is Barbados the best place to live?

That’s exactly what I do (plus, every time I’m in the US or the UK I buy as many books as I can carry). But when I order from Amazon for delivery in Barbados I have to (i) pay the duty and (ii)...

This is a really good and interesting thread. Congrats to the guy who started it.

I’ve been an expat for more than two decades—entirely for professional reasons. I never once thought “hey, I...

Re: Barbados bored wives club

I’m out. If this is only for people who can bear children, I have to pass. But good luck with it.

I’m told that there used to be a club for bored husbands here. It was called Spouses...

Re: why is Barbados the best place to live?

On beaches …

I’m sure many people will have many opinions about this, but … in my view, Crane beach is one of the world’s truly great beaches, especially in the early part of the year.

Re: why is Barbados the best place to live?

This is entirely a matter of personal taste. It’s also a matter of personal circumstances. I think that, to some extent, it also has something to do with age.

I’m all over it. First meeting could be at my house in Atlantic Shores. You get the guest-list together.

Conditions: (i) everybody has to be a real, actual bored spouse; (ii) there has to be at...

Dear all,

I have the standard one-year Bajan license for my car, and I’ve been thinking of buying a motor bike.
