Re: Is this the Mother of all downturns?

We still own our property in Australia and have rented it out. This (almost) pays the mortgage on it and occupancy rates are still very good in Melbourne so hopefully this will continue for a while....

Re: what if !!!

I'd definitely do it all again even though parts of it were deeply unpleasant! In my experience, you only regret the things you don't do.

I would never feel as settled here or have the...

Re: Renting out Australian property whilst living in the UK

We are doing this and as far as I'm aware if the mortgage repayments are more than the rental income i.e. you are not making any money then you are not liable for tax at all.

Bear in mind that in...

Hello All,

You may remember me from my depressed and desperate blatherings back at the beginning of the year (and before!) while I pined to return to the UK. You may even remember my excitement as...

Re: Shipping costs from Oz to UK

By the way, we have just managed to save a bit more cash by sending the airfreight with someone else.

Re: Shipping costs from Oz to UK

I hope you can manage to move. We're...

Re: Shipping costs from Oz to UK

We looked at taking the car too - they were fine with that for a 40ft container. We decided against it in the end so I am not sure it it bumps the price up. They didn't say so.

Still trying to...

Re: Shipping costs from Oz to UK

Hiya,

That's with King & Wilson. My quote is from Melbourne but surely a 20ft container from Brisbane to UK should be cheaper than my quote???

Re: Shipping goods back to UK - what is checked?

Oh, by the way - I as also told that that any furniture bought in Australia will have been treated to a certain standard so they are not concerned with your furniture if it is from Oz.

Though...

K&W told me categorically ( and have...
