Re: Getting married in UK

Only because family is all in England and it would feel 'not right' if we did it first without them, regardless of the reason for doing it...

Re: Getting married in UK

This is the issue - the rules require you to be in the country at least 30+ days which is just ludicrous given we are both British citizens. And other research shows it does not seem feasible to get...

Getting married in UK

Hi all

Just curious is anyone here, living and settled in Aus, has gone back to England to get married at all? We're aiming to do this in about 12 months time and starting the planning but there...

Re: Anyone know anything about washing machines?

Hang on....

So you have what you believe to be a fully working washing machine, that has a cut cable and there's all this talk of dumping it. I'm guessing many have more money than I do then?

Re: taking a laptop

And the quotation marks " and the @ symbol have swapped - that is a major pain with work and home computers and bloody email addresses. One day I'll get it right.

I got a int warranty with my...

Re: Tv sets in Australia

So very very true. Thank heavens for The Box.

'I got my coffee, I got my tea, I got my cups - Praise the lord for his 2 for 1 ticket offer' (Used thebox to get this so I'm just getting...

Re: Tv sets in Australia

Bottom line - listen to opinion or listen to facts.

Your TV's will work over here or can be made to.

It will cost less to make them work than it will to sell and buy new ones.

That simple....

Re: Panicking about Melbourne's unfurnished rentals culture!

Well, I must have been different but my first trip here I rented a three bed apartment, then rented all the furniture too. Beds, washer, dryer, sofa, TV etc etc. Pretty much everything on a year...

Re: Tv sets in Australia

Just to combine a few of the comments above.

If your TV has HDMI etc, that is no indication that it will work. A plasma and LCD TV will work in Aus or can be made to. Simple. You may have to...

Re: £100k Buying a car, ship it to Oz, sell it for Oz dollars?

So very very true. I understand the whole 'buy Australian' issue, but hate it when it gets rammed down my throat regardless of whether the quality is good or bad or indifferent. We get the Bev...

Re: need car insurance- in oz

Well, we were. If by 'crap', one sheet of A4 is going to add hassle to a move, then fair enough.

However, I doubt it! So maybe better to bring it for security rather than leave it, be asked...

Re: Confusion overy money transfer

I tend to use xe.com who have a good transfer process. Never had a problem, all online and the last time we transferred a sum (10,000 GBP) it hit the Aus account the day after it left the UK account...

Re: Do people actually like soccer in Australia?

And yes, I'[m not a fan of AFL but I understand how big it is and in this state, romps over everything. That said, more kids tend to move into soccer as more and more parents see it as safer than...

Re: Do people actually like soccer in Australia?

So maybe hockey should be called 'stick' because the only way to score is using the stick?;)

I've always thought AFL came about because they had a load of cricket pitches lying empty, so wondered...

Re: £100k Buying a car, ship it to Oz, sell it for Oz dollars?

HhHmmm me suspects your ignorance of ADR etc is demonstrated all too clearly here. No-one said it was worth the same.

Rust - oh dear. Are we talking Lancia's in the 80's or earlier. Again, a...

Re: £100k Buying a car, ship it to Oz, sell it for Oz dollars?

Agree - I never said otherwise. However, the discussion is about whether you can make money by bringing in a personal import and then selling it. The answer is yes, as many people have done. They...

Re: £100k Buying a car, ship it to Oz, sell it for Oz dollars?

Weebie, sorry but as others have said much of what you spout is nonsense.

The whole issue of ADR (Australian Design Rules) does have an impact, but there's also a difference between a personal...

Re: Being insured on relative's car in UK with Aussie licence

Ah - makes sense. It should be fine but he';ll have to do it and if there is a cost, it will depend on his insurance company as all are different.

Re: Being insured on relative's car in UK with Aussie licence

All depends on your bothers insurance and what they say since there's nothing you can do about it. The point will not make a jot of difference. Your brother is the only one who can talk to his...

Re: How much does it cost to emigrate?

All up, a family of 5 to move from a 5 bed house in Warwickshire to Melbourne cost us about 24,000 GBP all up with flights, shipping, and everything else. Including the first few weeks rental upon...

Chaps

Just thought I would open up the invite to you - there's been some chat of 5-a-side / futsal playing, but I wondered if anyone wanted to join a team playing out door? We have a few spaces...

Loads of places around Melbourne. Remember it's called Futsal here more than 5 a side so any searches should be under that. I play both on a Monday evening at APISC as well as a Wednesday in...

Re: Cheap Furniture in Melbourne

Rent the furniture - it's what I did in my first two years here... Quite a few places around. This means everything too - plates, cutlery, washing machines etc etc.
