Stick in mate, it's hell at the time but once you get it sorted out it's worthwhile. Just do what you have to do to get the golden ticket.

What I found is they won't change the rules for anyone...

I did my cert III electrotechnology through Petersham TAFE it was nearly all done via RPL as I had previously worked in Australia as a T/A when...

This is the route I took

ARTC elec mech
Peer wiring rules
SA Licence
Mutual recog from SA to NSW
Mutual recog from NSW to QLD
Mutual recog from QLD to WA

This was all back in 2009.

I personally think this is a backward step even though the ETU are hailling it as a victory.

It annoys the hell out of me having to renew three different licences for three different states.

If it's any interest to you I am currently undertaking the EITs Advanced Diploma in E&I Engineering for O&G Facilities.

I've been doing it since September. It's about $10k as well.

I did have a look on the NSW FT Site and none of the pathways mention an ARTC now.

It's a bit of a worry as I've had a NSW Licence for about 5 years as I went down the old ARTC...

Was there any reason given for why they have stopped accepting ARTC?

There was a time ARTC plus AS3000 wiring rules assessment and a year worths of references was acceptable.

To be fair some of the best instros i have worked with out here are Irish.

I think they can choose instrumentation as an elective during there apprenticeship or summat....

No

He doesn't have to.

He can do Cert III as I did and be RPLd for about 3/4 of the units through his cert III Electrotechnology.

He will then needs x amount of site hours superivsed working...

Certificate III instrumentation was at Petersham TAFE in Sydney

Certificate III is more highly regarded than Certificate IV.

Just wanted to add that the cert IV is pretty good for getting into mining and O&G but I've recently completed the cert III...
