Re: Plan B...Argh! What is Plan B!!

I was under the impression that the rules are different for getting married in a registry office to getting married in a church, as far as the Certificate of Approval. I don't think churches require...

Re: How to change my attitude!!

Cognitive behaviour therapy. Focus on positive thoughts about the move, and your reasons for moving. Just because you don't feel you have control over your situation, doesn't mean you can't take...

Re: asians having an easier time gettin work in the States?

Actually, I disagree with a lot of these points.

I don't think the US rewards hard work any more than anywhere else. Less vacation, more working hours, and and expensive healthcare system. I...

Re: Holiday visa success stories with a caution?

The only way you'll truly know is by applying for the visa and going to the embassy yourself. Nobody here can do that for you.

All the folks on here can do is advise (at your request), but the...

Re: Late visa application

I know people who have just done it.... I think generally it takes 2 weeks. The expedited route takes 2 days, apparently.

You might get some information on www.uk-yankee.com - that's a forum for...

Re: English boarding schools in France?

Probably the best thing you could do for him at that age would be to put him in a French school. Kids are very resilient.

Re: Closing Bank accounts in UK???

I moved to the USA and kept my bank account with a small amount in it. It turned out to be really useful. I used it for when people wanted to give me money for either myself or my son (they'd deposit...

Re: Trip to New York

I was going to add Battery Park to the list. You can get the Staten Island ferry from there, which is 20 mins each way and free. You get a decent view of the Statue of Liberty, and a great view of...

Re: Looking at Canada, or elsewhere

Re: CRB checks/warning on wait time, if returning to UK!

4-6 weeks is the norm, except if you're returning from living overseas it can take up to 3 months. Mine took about 11 weeks, and I got through savings needed for other things. Returning to the UK...

Re: Got the job via skype

Hey - congrats.

I got my job after being interviewed on Skype... it was a bit surreal, really, having to give a presentation and have a 2 hour interview from 3800 miles away!

Re: Do you love chickens?
