I was pointing out that it is often/not always, possible to distinguish Muslims as a group from other groups by looks, language etc.

I also pointed out that as Muslims in India AS A GROUP in India in general, tend to be poorer, they will just as likely not have a proper lavatory as any other group. Is that understandable?

India is a vast country there are a multitude of differing groups not just different religion.

We were in the same line of work, he was senior to myself. I don't think the word 'white' would be mentioned, why would it? they obviously knew I was British. They trusted him to make a good choice!!!!!!

Muslims came to India from areas to the north of the country centuries ago, of course there was/is is intermixing and of course obviously it is not always possible to tell just from their faces, but often their faces are slightly different. Its no big deal, just something in subconscious knowledge.
They are practically a different race from the Dravidian origin south Indians.

Obviously with language and dress the obvious difference would be greater.
