I thought yesterday was too good to be true

It is looking really bad - an AJ reporter phoned in from the centre of the square. The women and children are in the centre, the men are trying to protect them and push back the agitators. They have little food or water, no bandages or other medical supplies. It's virtually impossible to leave.

The army stands by watching.

At least Cameron has declared it "Unacceptable".... Nice one. Where were you for the last week?

I'm very worried for the people trapped there.

It doesn't look good. There are two outcomes to all of this:

1) Civil war
2) Mubarak steps in and restores an uneasy peace based upon ever more repression

I firmly believe that Mubarak's tacit is divide and conquer and so is trying to push the country into a mess so that he can then save it with his army.

Friday afternoon will be most interesting after everyone gets their latest set of instructions from the Mosque.

I know you shouldn't laugh about this... but people storming the square on camels is actually quite an amusing sight.

No, watch Fox News. Yesterday it was being discussed by their anchor and a chat show host; they were having a good ol' laugh about it, and when the chat show host put a fez on--my, it got even funnier. When he took it off, the anchor said, "No, put it back on, it looks good".

Linking to another thread, Fox News is somethng that makes me angry. The insidious right-wing claptrap it transmits is heinous.

the people who threw petrol bombs from roof were mubaraks thugs, some have admitted to being paid 200 pounds to cause trouble, others work for state owned or pro mubarak owned companys and have been told riot or lose your job. In a country with 30% unemployment losing your job is a big deal
