Re: EU migrant crisis
Damned if you do. Damned if you don't. Inequality is so great and so many countries in the world are ****ed up and dominated by war, oppression, injustice and so on. If the doors to the flow are opened, in my opinion they stay open forever. You cannot close them again. US are spared from this particular migration incident, but they have the same exact situation with people from all manner of places in Latin and South America.
The Schengen area of free movement is already finished as an experiment in my opinion. When you start closing borders that is the end of it. I'm not sure EU as a concept will disappear, but this situation may force some changes. It was always a case of being too much in the middle. Europe wanted to 'replicate' the US, but didn't have the balls to go all the way which meant we ended up with half-baked attempt.
The migrant problem has to be solved at source, but how to do that?
US/UK++ have invaded enough shit-holes over the last 25 years to 'save' the citizens to know that the current strategy doesn't work. You can't kick the current despot off the throne, walk out the door and expect the previously oppressed to fix the place up. They are as ****ed up as the despot were. Multiple chips on shoulders! My opinion (and this is by no way PC) is that history tells us that the only solution is to invade, colonise and never leave! And never grow a conscience (like Great Britain did when they started handing independence back to colonies)..
Let the flaming begin...

That part resonates. Queue of people outside your house, asking / demanding to come in; you don't know any of them. What d'you do, just open your front door and say "Welcome!"?

Personally I find this kind of outburst disingenuous, misplaced and slightly silly, but as long as you're against the EU that's all that matters right?

Examining what happened to the Vietnamese Boat People after 1975 is a sobering experience. Attempts to resettle them in the UK were not a great success.

The policy of "Dispersal" where they were distributed throughout the UK was not a winner.
Can we learn from this ? Probably not.

If not for the Vietnamese Boat people of 1975 the US would have about 10,000 less Vietnamese restaurants. Actually considering where they started on the economic rung, they have progressed nicely in the US.

Syrians are preferable to lebos who are preferable to Egyptians & other north Africans, all of whom are preferable to Indians and we have shit loads of them. Much prefer to see a Syrian doctor who spoke good english than a Gupta who can't.

Re: EU migrant crisis
I see Nigel Farage is already posturing and talking about a victory for the 'out of EU brigade', but let's be honest this eventuality has nothing to do with him. We cannot allow him to take credit if the UK leaves EU (not forgetting the EU might not even continue to exist for much longer).
Here are three non-correlated facts; the EU is tearing at the seams, UKIP are a failed experiment if you consider what they have actually achieved and Nigel Farage is slimy little snake.
I know I am inviting flames (even from people I respect on this bored), but I just feel disgusted by some of the stuff he claims lately..

UKIP has had its day. The looney, racist xenophobes are now in the mainstream of the Conservative Party. There are a good number in Labour, too.
