The MCC owns the ground now. Previously, before it received a Royal Charter in 2012 it was custodian trustee, so presumably someone else officially 'owned' Lords?

I thought it a bit lame actually. Not up to his usual high class, however I can relate to the "Special Tea" a few years back me and my mate were in a Chinese in Ajman drinking special tea and food. That night we both had the galloping shits. Not pleasant.

I'm always moaning about my local Spinneys' stock - my current bugbear is fresh coriander availability.

Yep, I think I'm starting to realise that. Along with my coriander bugbear as stated, I would like to add:
That's all for now - think I should probably sign up for Abu Dhabi Woman or Expat Flange after that outburst..
- Overall fruit and vegetable quality;
- Stacking new (different) items on top of existing items so you have to dig to find what you want;
- Spinneys management generally just standing around doing nothing, often with a clipboard in hand;
- Bag packers - I hate them anyway as I'm quite capable of packing my own shopping but their principle seems to be 'why use one bag for several items, when you can use multiple bags'. And then they advertise for a plastic bag wastage initiative and have posters up about it;
- The stock area is obviously too small to store anything, so new stock is left blocking aisles everywhere;
- Lazy oiks pulling up outside to drop off so they don't have to walk so far (not really Spinneys fault but annoys me anyway).
That's all for now - think I should probably sign up for Abu Dhabi Woman or Expat Flange after that outburst..

From a new magazine (called Good, published by Motivate) a useful comparison of supermarket costs. I've been saying that Union CoOp is best value for basics for years.
The monthly magazine is just Dhs 10 and for once isn't aimed at the five star (Dubai vodka drinking) set. Cover price of first issue is worth it for the free pizza alone. (My connection is that I am a contributer.)

The last time I was hit with a shoe the heel snapped off. Apart from that, I agree with you.

That article cannot be real. It must be a joke.

I get your bag packing one - I just don't want to be interfered with, bothered, spoken to, asked questions of or anything.
We had a small trolley full on Saturday night, including a big box of washing powder (Tide I think - domesticated you see). It got scanned and then put back in the trolley, so the mrs could pack the bags without it in the way. Bag packing man comes over whilst we are packing the other bags and takes it out to be scanned again. Ignores me telling him it's been scanned. Then works out what's happened, realizes he should put it back, then puts it underneath on that rack between the wheels which I've never, ever seen used...I just stood staring.
Now, you're all going to bemoan me for getting annoyed at someone trying to be helpful...but it wasn't. In fact, the 60seconds he entered my shopping experience and life was not wanted, appreciated or even remotely useful.
This extends to all shops in this country. I, like many other shoppers, just want to be left the **** alone.
Co-op is good, but I'm generally yet to find a shop with good fresh fruit/veg that lasts longer than 3 days.
