Some of those engines get 60 miles to the gallon, much better than the
mileage enjoyed by Europeans in their 35-year-old second-hand Citroëns.

That is a way of acclimatisation. It's a quite healthy lifestyle too.

Humans' natural habitat is the savannah. We are accustomed to rather
warm/hot climate. Everything else (esp. cooler) we have to get used to,
not the other way round. The migration out of the tropics was
humanity's biggest mistake, IMHO.

Most of Southern Europe practices siesta to an extent.

He's not that far off. Israel still has conscription for both sexes,
with long periods of enlistment. I get the same impression looking at
images from the country--there always seems to be someone in a military
uniform in every image.

Some people visiting a convention in Philadelphia a few decades ago
might beg to differ.

Not that it doesn't happen over here, but overheating stores in winter
tends to be more of a US phenomenon IME.

Things moved a _lot_ more slowly in hot weather.

    > The tooth fairy built the pyramids and the Parthenon?

We don't really know how the pyramids were built, or in what seasons, or
under what conditions. The Parthenon isn't quite so ambitious, and it
could have been constructed during cooler weather.

    > You see people getting along without air conditioning all the time in

If "getting along" means sleeping or sitting doing nothing, you're
right. But there's more to life than that.

    > Of course they aren't really human, sushi eating, surrender monkeys?

The Japanese have been very cruel to their own and to others; they are
not an example to emulate.

Funny. I think that's all _they_ get!

Define the word "terrorist" and we can discuss the point.

Lots of people have lunatic views (Benedict the Umpteenth, for a
start). Singling out Ken for inviting them home smacks of an agenda to
me.

I don't disagree with that.

There isn't a taboo - whatever gave you that idea? It's simply that
most people don't have such an aversion to the heat as you do.

I find it uncomfortable also - though I'm not sure that fashions in
"tank tops" are the issue.

No idea, but it's my vague recollection that you are not Ken's biggest fan.

That's because Israel is under a permanent state of siege from it's enemies.

In the US I also experienced the opposite - people over-cooling their
homes in order that they could show off their inappropriate clothing.
