I was amazed by the enormous number of German channels available in a
hotel I stayed in near the Bodensee. It was all rubbish just like
everywhere else :-)

A year ago, I remember flicking through the channels in my hotel room in
Wurzburg, and the programmes I saw all seemed to be German versions of
Judge Judy, except with better looking male versions. Bizzare!

I'm more inclined to think it's the temperature of his arse. That's
where is head seems to be most of the time.

His brain is addled by poor environmental conditions in Parisian broom
cupboards. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed that he had
lapsed into Fahrenheit.

No, but if they were still alive today, the argument would be a lot more
meaningful and relevant.

I wasn't aware that human physiology had changed so much in the meantime.

It hasn't, but technology has moved on, and the only way to tolerate
heat as people did 500 years ago is to live as they did, which means
discarding almost every feature of modern society. Even then, one may
not be able to tolerate heat--500 years ago, they didn't tolerate it so
much as they had no choice.

They could join in the discussion of where the best tapas bars are to
be found?

British troops lived in barracks without air conditioning in Singapore
right up to independence. Likewise French troops stationed in the
tropics.

If you scratched your way out of the cubby hole you live in, you might
find out that much of Latin America doesn't rely on a/c as much as the
US does (in areas with similar climates) or as much as you think the
rest of us ought to.
Most people accept that a/c is necessary in certain conditions, but in
others, I think it's just a question of comfort, not survival, and
certainly not as a way of life.
