arranged some electrons, so they looked like this :
...
... I will be going to Greece for the 1st time in about 4 weeks, from
... Monday to Friday and staying only in Athens.
...
... Sadly it will not be a holiday trip, but I hope to have enough spare
... hours to see something.
...
... Any must beyond the obvious Acropolis?
The Archaia Agora.
The Goulandris.
The Archaeological Museum of the Piraeus is well worth the train ride, too. I liked it
even better on my second visit (to date).

I can imagine it. As the friends I have in Germany (and my sister in law) are
from the area near Hanover, I suspect hochdeutsch will work fine for me.
I expect to speak Deutsch with a noticible American accent. Hopefully I'll be
able to minimize it.

I've mentioned bits of it before...but in late June we'll be flying to
Brussels, then going to Amsterdam for a few days, then through Ghent en
route to Normandy. A few stops in Normandy & northern Brittany, and we're
in Paris just before Bastille day. A busy couple of weeks.
This will probably be our last trip for awhile; airfare is just getting
too expensive. I know everyone complains about the Euro but our first trip
was just a couple of years ago so I haven't experienced it below $1.15!
Probably the next trip will be during my next 8-week paid sabbatical in
2010 - that will be a fall or spring trip to Spain & Italy.

Well, I'm looking for a bike trip, preferably somewhere I haven't been, in
September. I've got a free ticket. Since I had both knees replaced, it's
easier to travel by bike than tour places on my own, as much as I used to
love walking for long periods.
Anyway, right now I'm researching and thinking about tours in the Danube
Delta in Romania, the Baltics, around Berlin, or along the Hanseatic German
coast (I'm leaning toward few hills). Other possibilities include Poland, or
Friesland. (I've done the Netherlands, at least the southern part, and spent
lots of time in Belgium.) I'd love to do the Danube trail Vienna to
Budapest, but I want to do that with a friend in the future.
I'll be posting to a bicycle riding group, but since you've invited
discussion, I'd love to hear other people's comments and suggestions. I'm by
myself, so I'd like to be with a group, but if you'll suggest areas, I can
find a way to do it.

I was considering a tourist trip to Amsterdam at the end of May, but
thinking about it, it looks that Rome is closer, doesn't need airplane
reservation and has so much more to see, especially considering that I
always go to Rome for business and I never have time to really go
around.
However, I am just back from a concert tour to Budapest, Singapore and
Bombay :-)

St Pierre & Miquelon, apart from the Euro bit? You can visit France
without even crossing the Atlantic.

Am off to Torremolinos in a few weeks with wife for a week's R+R in the
sunshine. Familiar territory - we are long time Costa Del Sol fans. Staying
in good accommodation (Sol Principe Hotel) - have stayed here before so we
know what to expect. Torremolinos might evoke thoughts of a cheap'n nasty "
Kiss Me Quick" kind of place replete with tattooed lager louts and general
nastiness. In fact it's not like that at all. It has a good beach, fine
restaurants and is a handy base if one wishes to explore the "real" Spain
inland from the Costa. But I'll not be exploring this time: just relaxing in
the sun (hopefully), reading and dining out. I will drop into Malaga (just
down the road) to see the Picasso Museum (he was from Malaga) and that will
probably be my sole concession to culture on this trip.
Later on I have tentative plans to visit Rome with my son and in October
wife and myself are going to New York City for a week.

That depends on the day you ask me. The list is long, and the order is
fluid.
In Europe, city targets include Berlin, Bordeaux (where I'd probably
spend all my time tasting wine), Krakow, Lisbon, Lyon (for food),
Munich, Riga, Sarajevo (I think), Seville, St. Petersburg (Herself has
been, but I haven't), Talinn, Vienna (for Herself -- I've been there),
and Vilnius. I've probably overlooked some. Plus there are others
where I have been, and would happily go again.
I'm idly curious about a number of other places, including Belgrade,
Bratislava, Brno, Kaliningrad (can any place be as dismal as it is
reputed to be?), and Kiev.
More broadly, I would always be particularly happy to go to France or
Italy, and quite happy to go to Spain. Outside high summer, as I don't
like too much heat.

May 1st I'm off to Paris for the first time. I am really looking
forward to it and am working hard on my French (repetez apres Pierre!)
LOL! :)
No summer trip this year because I have put the money into my new
home.
In winter, I'd like to take another Christmas Markets tour, possibly
in the Baltics region.
Next year, I am planning a long summer tour with friends that will
include Hungary, Romania and the Ukraine.
