The whooshing noise in Bangalore was audible in Bombay this winter...
Everyone there was a bit scared when they heard it.
That's why they're trying:
1. Not to get too dependant on the 'call centre culture'.
2. Trying to keep the power on.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

I sincerely wish them well. Anyway, it's good to discuss India with someone
who's knowledgable enough not to jump immediately to the stereotypes. Even
if this is not strictly the forum for it. Although, anything that annoys the
anti-thread-drift obsessives on r.t.e is fine by me.

When I live in India I generally don't meet another European for that time
unless we get visitors.
This tends to mean I get the point of view of an educated Indian, plus I
read the Times of India every day when I'm there.
Now that is the best daily newspaper I've ever read, assuming you can get
through the dreadful anti-British bias...

Bangalore has rather more foreigners though they're usually distantly
located around the IT "campuses". Also, many are not here for very long so
there's not much point in cultivating relationships and IT people are social
outcasts anyway. I probably mix more with a lower-middle to middle class
here though that changes on business trips to Mumbai or Delhi. Cocktails at
the Taj Palace, dinner in Golf Links and so on but that's not my usual life.

Once true, in my opinion, but I think the ToI has turned into an appalling
celeb schlock rag. I cancelled it very quickly - if I want that rubbish I'll
buy Mid-Day (which I do when I can - the newswallah won't deliver afternoon
papers so I have to actually go and get it myself). Southern newspapers, I
think, are better generally ... Deccan Herald, Deccan Chronicle and, despite
its provocative name, The Hindu. I think even The Hindustan Times is better
than the ToI.

I think the Hindustan Times takes itself far too seriously.
I can't stomach the Bombay Times and Mumbai Mirror that come free with the
TOI.
But then I can't tell the difference between the various minor filmstars (of
both sexes) as they lurch according to age from one stereotype to the next.

True up to a point.
It's also got weather that is best experienced on film from mid April to the
end of September...
And yes, I have experienced it, and this year I'm spending the summer on
the Yorkshire coast...

I spent the last monsoon in Bombay.
Not funny
The roads into the city were essentially cut off for a day every week or so.
The trains came and went depending on the whims of the weather and the
controllers.
Ganpati was fun though...

Well they forecast a heavy mist this morning.
Instead it was warm and sunny.
I imagine all the landladies are spitting feathers.
The last time they cocked the weather forecast up to this extent the council
actually accused the BBC of being in concert with Blackpool council because
the BBC had a big event there that weekend...

My daughter is somewhere near Northallerton, she said she has had an overcast
day, whilst in York where my son is, it has been a lovely sunny day.
