Yes a worsening picture at the beginning off the Festive Season. I for one not surprised. This trend is repeated throughout the 'Christian' world. Expect more bad news to come and a repeat of draconian restrictions,
Happy holidays to one and all.

There's a lot of rumours around impending lockdowns in NCR and even in Tagaytay. They've been denied online and just now on GMA News TV by a cabinet member and the QC, Tagaytay mayors. The mayors of the NCR cities all meet and give their view of the overall quarantine level to the government.

Last time I looked QC had one of the lower percentages of cases to population. It has well over 3m. San Juan was more than twice as high and QC, Pasay and Makati were almost as high. City of Manila was much lower. One caveat: there were many thousands of disputed cases QC didn't want to claim earlier in the year. I don't think they were ever put on their count.

Though QC has had an increase lately more than the NCR as a whole.

Yesterday the DOH announced 1,754 new cases from 1,163 positives out of 21.3k tested plus a backlog. So 66% recent. Twelve labs not reporting. Tests on the way at 34.8k

Top 5 locations:

Rizal again over 100.

Deaths 36 with a higher than usual RD finding of 25. Is the DOH validation process of looking at past recoveries not coming to an end soon?

Mass recoveries at 8.1k.
Active cases now 21,708, 272 less than a week ago.

More detail on the December 19 cases:

Plus other Mindanao 41, Bicol 11, MIMAROPA 9
Estimating for recent cases: NCR 360, 4A 220

Plus Valenzuala 13, San Juan 10.

Note 10 NCR cities,
Mankayan in Benguet. appearing again with Baguio and La Trinidad.

By the figures a better week. Cases down by over 500 to 9,730. Deaths down by 21 to 182.
Still not looking good in SE Asia though the Philippines looks in a better position than many European and countries in the Americas. It's just that Xmas/New Year is traditionally so intense here and many are nervously wondering whether people are going to heed government advice and not put the fragile health services under even greater strain next year. More restrictions will stunt any economic recovery but if case rise accelerates in January the government will have no choice but to put at least some back in place.

Passed by a large Tagaytay restaurant today displaying a new board listing entry restrictions from the City Hall, including over 65s not allowed to dine in. Back in September it was over 60s. That was relaxed later and now back again at 65. Going to disappoint many visitors over Xmas and New Year who like to dine with a view. Many restaurants here are open to the breezy air and are spacious .But the dynasty in charge in Tagaytay want to please.

At 1,721 about the same number of new cases yesterday as the day before. Five labs did not report. Only 735 cases found positive out of 14k tested, that's a rate of 5.3% again over 5% as it was the day before. Only 43% of results were recent.

Top locations:

Deaths 10 with 4 of them RDs.
Critical 1,377..unchanged.

More detail on December 20:

Plus other Mindanao 51, MIMAROPA 21.
Allowing for backlog only 330 recent NCR and 210 4A.

Other cities 55.

Four of the five Calabarzon provinces.

Ten out of 17 NCR cities.
Now four Benguet locations.

https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news...story/?just_in

The major research group here proposing the re-imposition of travel controls and pointing out that under GCQ in the NCR there is already a limit of 10 on social gatherings. Which I would guess most people are not aware of. Anyway it's too late to come out with limits on Xmas and New Year get togethers now. And the government seems to have already decided that the economy is the priority and to put back travel controls in the NCR and its surrounding areas goes against that.

Yesterday added 1,314 to the new cases total and 10 labs did not report. New cases were 80% recent with a positivity of 4.9% out of 21,2k tests. Only 17.7k tests on the way. Is there an Xmas effect causing a drop in testing when more will likely be needed?

Top 5 locations:

A temporary ban is not surprising as many other nations have done so. But those arriving from the UK before the ban are subject to 14 day quarantine even though they have had and presumably passed a swab test?
Welcome to the Philippines!
Seems to me the authorities here are wanting to look tough elsewhere as they well know new cases here will be on a significant rise after a Xmas season which looks nearly up to the usual level of activity, in spite of their exhortations.

Arrivals have always been subject to 14 days quarantine but the difference now I believe is that the full 14 days has to be done in the hotel. We were due to arrive on the 2nd January but we will now put it off, maybe until say the end of .March and hopefully get the vaccine beforehand.

No....not according to this PAL advisory on procedure for all foreign national arrivals. You only go to a hotel to await your test result .That's not a real quarantine.

But Duque said all UK arrivals today must go to Clark for a real 14 day quarantine.

Not correct, you stay in the hotel until you got your result then finish the 14 days at home.
