I had the misfortune to be in Wellington amongst xmas shoppers today, and all that was apparent to me was ridiculously noisy car engines, and cars driving past with massive boom-booms exploding every 2 seconds. Totally horrible environment.
I dont think there is any justice system. Fines never seem to get paid, people who kill on the roads, even when drunk, get a few months home detention and a years driving ban.
There is no personal accountability for behaviour, so people pretty much do what they like.

My daughter and her neighbour have just made a complaint about the band practice racket coming from the house opposite in the middle of the day. Someone came along almost immediately to check it out and within minutes it ceased and has been quiet ever since. They were told when they complained that 2 people have to complain before they can act but that's easily arranged in most cases.
Then they were given false information as that is not the case & not how it works. Certainly not here anyway.
However I have to applaud that super quick action and even more surprising, the compliance .
In fact I am simply amazed given our experience.1 - No-one ever arrives quickly. One vehicle covers the entire Tasman region over a weekend it seems.
2 - There is always probably a 15 minute lull maybe before a return to the same level of noise, resulting in another call ,and another and another and another.
FYI Our problems with this have been going on for over a year now & nothing has made a difference.

That said, love rugby as I do, it's a shame that if the All Blacks slip up (which they will inevitably do
) then the whole nation will go into meltdown. I had hoped I'd left all that back in the UK/football but alas it is not to be 
- so the country's dependence upon a few (admittedly nice to look at!) blokes running around a field is somewhat depressing!

what's uncool?
- standard of driving
- that car insurance isn't complusary
- louds ads on the tv, though I rarely watch it, equally annoying are the blatent product plugs on radio programs outside of the ad breaks
- drivers attitude to cyclists, worse I've experienced anywhere.
- poor standard of housing
- poor access to countryside outside of parks, particularly mtn biking
- variety of cheese poor, and comparatively expensive
- standard of driving

Has anyone done the well uncool value of the frigging kiwi$ ????????
That has to be way up there in the uncool charts for those of us wanting to move cash from GB (or anywhere!) to NZ. Its heading to 2.04 and below just now...apparently the BoE printed off 12.5 bill. last week.
Nice.
Is it going to go sub $2 for 1?? If it does that I fear will be the last resistance and then I think the GBP will be on the express lift all the way to the kind of fiscal shite that saw Jerry taking a barrow load of marks to the bakers to buy a loaf just before the start of WW2. And alas then those of us holding GBPs they wish to export will be that much poorer!!!!
Hey but the royal 'ding will sort all the quid's problems. Come spring time there will be soooooooooooooooooooooooo many yanks in the UK the pound will rally hugely JUST because of the amount of them being bought by the wedding wannabes!!!
