What's really uncool about New Zealand is the fact that you dare not mention or draw attention to anything bad and must at all times be on your guard to adhere to the self-congratulatory program of worshipping everything New Zealand has ever achieved or produced.
I missed the small print on my Visa that says:
Now let's all stand and sing the New Zealand National anthem

The fact that NZ is a borderline 3rd world country is really uncool.

Re: What is REALLY uncool about NZ
As someone has already said, NZ may be backwards, insular and well up its own tiny, insignificant arse (in world terms anyway), but it is not 3rd world (not even anywhere near borderline). And as that person pointed out its a bit of a kick in the teeth for those living in REAL 3rd world conditions to make comparisons like that..think about it eh??
Last time I looked there was and A and E to go to plus lots of water and sewerage facilities to avail oneself to. Oh, and doctors and schools in every town. It may well be 3rd world in attitude but not in infastructure..apart from terra firma based public transport.

The 'who you know not what you know' attitude when job hunting
Bad driving- nothing to do with alcohol intake, just plain bad driving!
The right hand turn rule - going soon but not soon enough
Earthquakes - though that has changed my mind about how superior bricks are as a building material
Christmas in the middle of summer
The inlaws

I've had 6 Xmasses in NZ and wouldn't swap it for a UK one ever again. It starts in September over there and by Christmas everyone looks really stressed. You get sick of the endless christmas songs wherever you go and they're not even Carols. Supermarket queues are endless, parking's impossible. Finally the day arrives and what do they do, eat, drink and slump in front of the TV all day. Boxing day it's back to normal and everyone's out at the sales spending money they haven't got. Who needs that!

Checkout assistants who ask "hows your day been"?, when my cats just died or it's that time of the month. Really irritating!

Are you a Kiwi Tray ? I am married to a Brit.
Sometimes what seems like small thing to us are not small things to others.
I don't think most of us realise just how different our upbringings can be. There is no doubt that the NZ lifestyle is more laidback.
And long may it stay that way even if to some it seems backward. Good or bad it is our uniqueness.
I think the bare foot think is easy fixed. Either wash your feet or you can't come into my home. But don't then spoil it by kissing your visitor because their bacteria is all around their nose, mouth triangle.
Personally I would be interested in if my visitors had been exploring their nose since they last washed their hands.
My biggest uncool gripe about NZ is the volume of those bladdy TV ads. Most other things I guess I have learnt to live with.

The glass is half full/half empty depending on your outlook on life, which can be influenced by genes & life experience...if your going to look on the down side of life or get so irritated by stuff, it may not necessarily be the countrys that is at fault
Earthquakes & tsunamies in NZ are not good, neither are floodings and bombings in the UK..not to mention other countries
There seem to be no proper noise laws in the UK either...if it's after 11pm your'e on your own
There are bad drivers in both countries, at least there is a bit more room on the roads here in NZ & I don't remember too many continuous cycle lanes in the UK that didn't just end in the middle of nowhere

No matter what people say it is much more commercialized in the UK- Christmas is the epitome of this and I am so glad to be away from it. It's not easy to ignore when it permeates the schools, the supermarket, the TV etc. Yesterday, when my littlest (8) saw some mince pie bites in the supermarket she said "oh wow, is it nearly Christmas?" and I was able to tell her that no, it isn't really. It's still weeks away.

Christmas down under starts as soon as father's day has finished - Sept, but it's not as commercialised here.
if you want an example of commercialism in action in New Zealand just look at the rugby world cup guess it shows where the priorities are.

Re: What is REALLY uncool about NZ
My daughter and her neighbour have just made a complaint about the band practice racket coming from the house opposite in the middle of the day. Someone came along almost immediately to check it out and within minutes it ceased and has been quiet ever since. They were told when they complained that 2 people have to complain before they can act but that's easily arranged in most cases.
