aww Phyl, that's crap news... sorry!! Passage on a container ship takes about 6 weeks and it's the green way to travel (according to the observer last year!!) so all may not be lost xx

That's a real toughie Weeje. Either she'll come by boat if she is willing or you'll have to set your head to annual returns to see her, if you can afford it. Or perhaps she gets a boat to half-way here and you fly half-way back.

I had a similar blow over my Dad way back when we first arrived. I thought he would be able to visit and stay for months but he never even got here because of his health. Looking back , I think we were both fooling ourselves.


I really, deeply feel for you with this one Phyl. Have some hugs from me. I know this is a really bitter blow.

Phyl, my mum is in her mid/late seventies and has a pacemaker. She was able to fly the year before last so long as she didn't fly long distance?! From what I remember she flew LHR to San Francisco, then she picked up a cruise ship that poodled on down and arrived in Auckland. I picked her up from there and she had THREE MONTHS with us before getting back on a ship to Australia where she saw a friend. Another ship to Singapore and then a flight back from Singapore to London. This coming February she is hoping to fly the whole way, with maybe 3-4 stops accompanied by my brothers ... lucky them! Hopefully you can find a way for your mum.

other than I did lots of work that someone will have to pay me for.......

ill most of the week and had to give up on an inspection Friday and say no to some new work Thursday (all good money too!)
kids ill
lost a filling and then worked solid on a report till 0430hrs only to find client was out most of the day on a course........grrrrr......
not got GST done
not got tax done
got no billing done
haven't finished the "must be done yesterday" work yet so another report to write....
