Time to ask for the Union-Jack back.

Maybe the Aboriginal flag with the stars straight on it? However I still think the red white and blue need to be incorporated as it recognises the British history. Anyway I don't know why I am contributing as I don't believe in flags and nationalism!

Agreed!!!! It seems some people like to stir. Maybe they should open a forum titled "why we love it here"...

I've actually met a lot of Aussies who are more patriotic towards the Royal family than most Brits I know! They even have a public holiday to celebrate the Queen's birthday here and not in the UK!??!!...

I think they just want the extra holiday. I remember telling my mother I still believed in Santa Claus so I could get the extra presents.

I live in a suburb in Perth and let me tell you they could fly that flag over their council offices no problem..oh along with the South African, Surbian, Indian and the Lebanese flags....if you think Aus is anything other than multi cultural then your mistaken.......as for the flag..most Aussie's we know want their own flag and good luck to them...I am all for the going "Republic" if thats what the public want....then no more Royal Yatch club this, no Royal Hospital that... no Sir/Lady that.....Royal Navy etc.........maybe even remove themselves from the Commonwealth who knows?......... (but I do think they should take their stars off our flag if it comes to that)......as for the Indiginent People they were treated horribly at first.....but I do think the government have said sorry in a way a long time ago in the huge amount of money which spent trying to help these people....maybe that is where they went wrong....to much money.....not all are bad though....like eveywhere in the world "there are bad ones in every race"

It would surprise most Aussies that the majority of the people in the UK, Europe and the States don't give a monkeys about Australia fullstop!! Australians are always surprised to see that we don't figure much in world politics or economy. That we are just seen as one big holiday beach! Speak to many Australians in Australia and they think Australia is saving the world and is forefront of major world events.

I said "no" he said "mohamid ..it's full of migrants"....now how can you get into a conversation with someone with that attitude.....bless.....and you cannot believe everything you read about the Aboriginals.....you cannot "paint" people with the same brush...bad things happen everywhere.....Northern bird why do you come on the site for people going home......seems your VERY happy here and thats great......but for the life of me I would not be on here if I was not heading home.....(no offence meant to anyone out there)...and you get so up tight when people don't agree with you........

I thought my original point was valid and felt the need to stick up for the people that had been unfairly tarred with one brush.
You will also note that I have not resorted to personal attack, unlike some of my respondees.
But fair enough, you are the mod, from here on in I'll leave the delicate flowers to themselves.
Cheers,
Matt

As I said I made a generalization, as is that all Aussies are easy going, friendly people who can't wait to welcome new migrants.
And in my opinion my generalization is nearer to the majority then the utopian picture painted by some.
It is difficult to say if we made a "huge personal error in judgement" because you can only make a judgement with the evidence that you have. So our decision to move to Australia based on the knowledge we had at the time was correct.
The experience and knowledge, of the place, the people and of our own needs, that we gained whilst in Australia was then added to the evidence file and we made another judgement and moved back.
No blame on the country or the people, it wasn't for us, we processed the facts, as it panned out for us, came to a decision and left.
But it doesn't make our opinions worth any less and if we can support others who are going through the difficult stage of coming back then why not.
I can still remember how stressed and demoralized I felt planning the return and flippant wind ups by people with nothing better to do didn't help.
And yes we should invoke copyright or something, if they won't sing allegiance to the Queen then we should take the Jack back. It would surprise most Australians that the majority of people in the UK couldn't give a monkeys if they went independent or not.
Kev.

Funny how when Vim replies he gets accused of winding people up and told not to post in this forum,to which he agrees to..yet people still continue to try and quote him....who's winding who up here?

I usually appreciate 80% of your humour Vim, but in all honesty, you know f*** all about our experience here. As I plainly stated this is our humble opinion, and it is just what we have found. We have done nothing whatsoever to alienate anyone we have met, but we just can't avoid seeing what's in front of our eyes.

I have had a lovely morning, been down to Cottesloe for morning tea. English breakfast tea and some beautiful sandwiches and cakes. Very english it was too. People can come on here and still have a life you know. Does that mean that once you have moved back that we won't hear from you again.

Vim lives in the "bush" not in an overpopulated area....wonder why?.......Ignorance is problem and unfortunately a lot of Aussies are Ingorant of the Outside World.....and a lot of brainwashing starts very early on in their Education.......lot's of young Aussies go overseas, loads to the U.K...for work...for whatever reasons....I think the government would have serious problems if we were to have cheap overseas flights..maybe just maybe the Aussies would then see that the world "outthere" is wonderful....
