What a load of crap. We came having visited Australia a number of times and made some good Australian friends.
Then we moved there and realised they are, as a generalisation, arrogant, poor sportsman and generally have a chip on their shoulders. As we had only good feelings about Australians before we came to Australia permanently, as I'm sure most people have that up sticks and invest much time and money moving across the world, then how would our "smelly attitude" become a self fulfilling prophesy?
There are some great Australians and we still have some good friends we keep in touch with but the culture, through the media and the mindset of the average Aussie is 1 part caveman, 2 parts shark.

Usual shoot the messenger me thinks.

Then we will agree to disagree, the traits you have described are hopeless generalisations in my experience.

You have probably realised you have made a huge personal error in judgement and are trying to compensate by blaming the country as a whole ... it's a common fault, don't feel bad.

I hope you find a home soon

Country is OK , it's the majority of the people in it that's the problem.

I guess if you were an arrogant, self centred, unsportsmanlike parochial sort of person with a chip on both shoulders then you would probably fit in very well

Probably something like that.
Great post! Maybe that's what has got Vim's knickers in a twist - does he recognise himself???

This obviously isn't part of the 20% you like but then again this isn't humour either.
We weren't trying to tar everyone with the same brush, it was a general statement based on what we see around us; very sorry if it rocks your utopian garden of eden, but that's what differences of opinions are all about - and as stated we know the rubbish bits about UK too. There is no 'failure' here, just a complete realisation that our life in UK was much preferable to here for all the reasons stated. So what, big deal. That's our decision. As many others plainly state, there are many good bits and bad bits about Australia. You're on the wrong forum, mate, if you want to hear people espousing only the good bits. You are clearly assimilating yourself into the bad bits, if you can only slate people for their opinions....

Blimey, talking of arrogance...

This isn't agreeing to disagree Vim, it's being presumptuous about, and insulting to, another poster. You have no right whatsoever to assume that whatever Kevin did was an error, or that he does (or should) feel bad about it.

Please stop trying to wind people up. You know very well this forum is for people who are intending to return to the UK and for those who can offer positive help and advice. As this doesn't apply to you please do not post in the UK forums.
