Default Time to ask for the Union-Jack back.

I think it is time we ask for the Union-Jack to be removed from the Australian flag.
They have no links to us these days and most want a Republic anyway, time the Queen retired and when that happens all cultural links to Oz should be squashed along with the flag, they dont want the Union Jack on their flag and we want it removed.

When we lived in Oz I met lots of 2nd and 3rd generation Aussies who were still very proud of their English/Scottish/Welsh/Irish heritage - does anyone know if they have had any sort of referendum out in Oz on the issue?

P.S Ooooh interesting debate on the matter in the Barbie...http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=514746

I concur.

At the same time I think the UK drop the Union Flag for a flag more representative of the population. There is an example below.

Not true, ignore the troll, official figures.

white (of which English 83.6%, Scottish 8.6%, Welsh 4.9%, Northern Irish 2.9%) 92.1%, black 2%, Indian 1.8%, Pakistani 1.3%, mixed 1.2%, other 1.6% (2003 census)

I agree. The aboriginies should be allowed to choose the new Aussie flag, given it's their country.

Yes, like the CIA still believe there are WMD's in Iraq and American soldiers MIA in Vietnam.

As far as the Aboriginies are concerned, it's not their country anymore, we have said sorry so they can now go out and get a job instead of drinking alcohol and sexually abusing young children.

Whilst it may be offensive to you sadly a lot of what he says is true and is commonplace in Aboriginal communities.

Why can't you just leave stuff alone, you always seem to be trying to start threads to wind people up. It is a beautiful day in the UK, why don't you go out and have a walk around the lovely countryside you seem to harp on about so much.
