Could it be a ploy to prevent you from leaving? i.e. Coerce your finances so that you are unable to leave?

Meanwhile, have you worked out how much the house is actually costing you each month? Have you thought of reducing the price taking that into account? The quicker you get home to your daughter and get your lives back away from that.....that....., sorry, thought of worse but couldn't say it on here, the better.x

This is a brilliant idea SGG. We did this when we had our house up for sale in the UK. The house sale fell through twice and we were desparate to get away and get on with things.

We worked out mortgage, rates, bills etc for a month, multiplied it by 6 and took that off our asking price.

Well it makes sense really doesn't it. If you are paying out for example $2000 a month mortgage, $250 rates (water and shire) + your utilities, then work that out over the next 4 months (that's when R wants to be back home), then maybe it would be worth while reducing even by $10,000 and see what happens.

Well, your husband agreed to pay for his cousin's fare, even if the request was unreasonable and you couldn't really afford it. I wouldn't go back on my word, but that's just me.

I can't see any reason to pay for, or subsidise, anyone else. Your mother in law asked him to pay for one particular person, not the whole family, and I'd probably tell them that. Start a fight amongst them. It might make you feel better!

Personally i would have slapped OH, but in all honesty my OH is tighter than me so it wouldn't have been a prob, there is no way we would pay for a relly that we don't see to come and visit someone else (not even to visit us)

This cousin is a drug user and never worked in their life. Not bad going eh!
But it was his mums wish......arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Anyway..if i reduce my house anymore i will make a complete loss, so it has to stay as it is for the time being. We are going back nevertheless, sold or not. We will have to have a very slow start in UK, which we are prepared to do.

I'm sorry to read all this Nu. I try to teach my kids that what goes around comes around...the MIL will get hers, but it wont be nearly as juicy as you might want it to be. I hate manipulators because I'm usually the one that's manipulated . We have our 3rd open house tomorrow, and I think the crossed fingers I was going to have for the sale of ours, I will give to you - you sound like you need it more.

That sounded like a real 'control experiment' from your MIL to me, she wanted to see just how much power she has over your partner.

Im also shocked that other relatives would expect a freebie, because that is exactly what they want - a freebie. Because if they were that concerned about her they would move heaven and earth to get to see her and not expect someone else to freeload them.

OH's family in UK are quite poor and are raging that one relative is getting here for free. Possibly because this person is a dole dosser and druggie, but his mum wants her over as they were very close back in UK.
Hubby said he will never pay anything out again as he knows how wrong it is and what upset it has caused, but did it just this once for his mum. I told you in my PM that we don't get on with her anyway....i think you can start to understand why.
