Do you have a link? I just found her Guardian profile page, but coudn't see a link for a blog ... I'd be interested in reading that.
I agree re: Kasper's character - and there are so many other flawed, interestng characters in that series, too. I'll have to pay more attention to the interior design next time I watch it. I don't tend to notice these things, but it sounds like I probably should. ;) Dunroving, this is for the Killing , but if you use the Guardian search engine, she blogs on all the Scandi dramas. There is also comments after each review that are fun to read. The Digital Spy forums are also a meeting place for addicts. What a misspent life I lead! |

What ya all think of the British Music Awards last night? I really didn't know anyone that were nominated, or got awards, except one direction and Robbie williams, when I first came home a couple years ago his name was mentioned on the radio and I thought they were talking about Robin Williams the American actor, but later I found it was this British bloke who sings
I'll have to check out these Nordic Noir programs and others mentioned, they sound pretty interesting. I'd love a new program to get excited about. I've been watching old Law and Order lately, still good stuff. |

I didn't know that a US version had been made. In general I can't stand US crime dramas, too much makeup, big hair and teeth. They just don't have any sense of reality, everybody looks like they just walked out of the beauty salon. I used to enjoy Silent Witness, when it first aired, with Amanda Burton. Sadly, I can't watch it anymore as the stories have become more graphic and the "snazzy" filming techniques and loud music just get on my nerves. |

I have been enjoying the light 50's drama/comedy Call the Midwife, but just lately the birthing scenes have been a bit gross, just as I'm trying to enjoy me tea - it seems like the special effects people have been watching too many of those "Aliens" movies!!

the US version of the Killing wasn't one of those "big hair and make-up" detective shows. The main character looked about 13 and spent half the time either crying or getting knocked over in her attempts at actually arresting someone. I sometimes think US TV and movie producers assume the American audience won't like some complexity in their characters.
Re Call the Midwife, I am with you on tmi. That is when I get back to playing Killer Sudoko on my iPad, but I do enjoy the show. Can't wait for the return of Foyle's War - one of my all time favourites and Michael Kitchen is very easy on the eyes. |

I know, I gave up on American drama a long time ago and that is probably unfair as I bet there are some good programmes out there. The only TV/Films (US) that I will watch are the ones where they have a good actors that I am familiar with e.g. Glenn Close, Meryl Streep. So I am probably not giving shows a chance that have up and coming actors in them. I heard that Mad Men was great, but I have never seen it. There are others that have aired on HBO, (can't remember the names) that have been given really good reviews. Perhaps, when my TV recording box is empty, I'll give American telly another chance.

What I do miss is watching shows on a big screen, so I have to work out how to view them on the flat screen TV when I get a chance. It's not a big issue, though. My laptop has a 17-inch screen anyway - decent size. |

Other than Downton, Foyle's War and Call the Midwife I have no clue what you guys are talking about, We love all those shows, Silent witness used to be shown here but like many things it was dropped.

My mum (a midwife in the 1950's) would have been very tickled to know that "Call the Midwife" is prime time viewing.

I got rid of cable TV about six months ago. I don't miss it. I simply miss the noise the TV offered for companionship. I now watch programs on the computer. I refuse to spend all that money every month on junk. I only had it installed again about two years ago, too, after not having any TV service for about four years (had dropped it for the very same reason). It seemed like a good idea to have it reinstalled at the time but it wasn't. After it was installed, I discovered I only watched the occasional movie on it and NONE of the regularly scheduled shows. One movie a month wasn't worth it and I was paying a small fortune for it in the end.

Great for watching TV or looking at photographs on the telly. I can't remember the name of the cable, but I can ask my OH if you think this is something you might be interested in. |

Windsong, one of the great things about being back is I pay very little for TV, even when I include the annual cost of the TV Licence. I used to pay dearly in Canada for Cable TV and the choice was dire. Now my recording box (very technical term) always has something for me to watch and if not, I can watch shows of the various catch-up players.
