Thank you for the reply, so maybe it is better for me to drop the offer since my current contract and its related documents are under non disclosure agreement (NDA) and even if it wasn't the case, in my 20 years experience I never shared a document that contained my social security number, tax rate...and other personal data for a third party

They asked for your contract? Wow.

Pretty standard to ask for confirmation these days, but you can choose not to move forward I guess. What do you think they will do with a social security number? Go wild on some identity fraud?

payslip is part of contract documents.
Maybe it is standard in some part of the world, but not everywhere.
Pretty sure you can do bad things with others people SN, it is personal information for a reason. As you said, better to move on.

I am offered an engineering position in Neom, but this payslip things make me hesitant.
if it is for background check, I can share my employment certificate.

Any idea of someone who got a position in Neom without sharing too much personal data (payslips, bank statements...)?

Thank you.
have you received a written offer? I'm unsure how they would provide financial offer if you haven't provided payslips for which to benchmark the offer on. The process is standardised for everyone, and doesn't take into account for norms of 'where I'm from'. It might seem strange, but perhaps the job/region isn't for you if this minor hurdle is a concern.

Being adaptable is key thing all Neom employees need to survive/thrive here. The recruitment process is a good filter for ensuring the right candidates are employed. It is good you have identified early that you may not be suitable.

I have been accepted to the position after all the interviews. Now I'm in the stage where they ask for payslips to make the written offer. The offer have been communicated verbally at the beginning to know the salary range.
It is not a minor hurdle. It is a personal data privacy, otherwise why they don't to share everyone's data and finances on a open platform if it is minor to you.

From 'where I'm from' Being adaptable is related to technical competence and ability to provide quality engineering work, not accept abusive personal data breach

I believe you can provide the payslips just to show the salary you get and black out or remove any private information you dont like to share.

"Open platform" It's one reason not to do it I guess.. Normally it's because the figures don't match what was claimed, but at least it's not that.

Good advice to redact information deemed sensitive. An nice example of being adaptable/resourceful.

Spxtrader - you may feel frustrated or disagree with our recommendations, but from experience we repeatedly find the candidates that struggle with NEOM/KSA requirements are the ones that leave after very short tenure.
If candidates find issue with sharing infromation, they may struggle to achieve attaining their basic ID and services in KSA.

clever boy …dude i am good where i am. i am just interested on technical challenges of the project and wanted to be part of it, cause i know some high end technologies will be deployed over there.
the 25% uplift proposed is not near of what i am making trading options on side of job, so no need to bring figures to discussion.

Thank you both for the kind replies and understanding.
the law in my country is just protective when it comes to personal data. The only people who legally have access to payslips are HR of my current employer, tax authorities and myself. If for any reason, a company or other organisation want to have access to those document and asks my employer, they will just deny that cause it is unlawful and will simply confirm to them if i am working with them or not (that’s how the background check is usually done).

Just curious question, why will people leave after a short period if it is not related to work environment ?

at the end it was a great short experience with my interviewes, the managers and directors seem to be nice people and we were all excited of what we can achieve. Maybe i will work with them in future projects/location if life manage to cross our roads again.

I doubt your situation is unique since most developed countries have data privacy legislation related to access of information. Of course only authorised people have access, likely including payroll, tax offices, banks etc. But the company isn't asking to access your entire employee file.

What is being requested here is information that is your property to share with whomever you wish. For example, to open a credit card account you might be asked to provide the same infromation. There's probably alternative ways to prove salary. Of course it's your choice not to share, and reject the opportunity.

Like with any role/relocation there are a variety of reasons for short-term turnover. Some generalisations would be people who:
  • Are unprepared/uncomfortable with change.
  • Struggle with isolation or simple don't enjoy the unique environment.
  • Don't gel with their colleagues/management.
  • Lie and become exposed.
  • Toxic/negative/rude/disruptive.
  • Family or health issues.

I see, Thank you for all the information.

Finally I wrote them today to stop the process, and move on. I never did what they ask and I'm not feeling comfy sharing it now.

Wish you all the best

Hi All,

I am considering a potential relocation to NEOM due to the massive payrises I have heard off. Does anyone happen to know what the salary package would be for a civil engineer +7 year experience in design and contract management?

Thanks
Kz

Afraid it doesn't really work like that. The salaries are based on bands applied to job grades, Lead, Manager, Senior Manager, Director etc. So what you could earn would be entirely based on the role you'd go in to. Where there is however a correlation, is that the role you go in to is a function of your current salary including any cash equivalent benefits, plus an uplift of around 25%. That figure will then dictate the pay band and therefore the job grade you'd go in to.

It's relatively simple, however for some people can be a benefit or not. For example, if you happened to get paid handsomely for your current role, then you'll benefit more from the uplift and could go into a higher role than you'd expect. Conversely, if you live out on the sticks or are from a country where salaries for a role are lower than elsewhere, you could be a senior manager right now, but find yourself as a lead or specialist in NEOM due to the pay equivalency.

In a nutshell, your job grade (or title for want of a better term), is almost entirely based on what you used to earn in your previous job, not what your experience, skill or seniority in a particular field may dictate. The way to look at it, is to look at the offer and decide if it works for you. Don't get hung up on what others earn or what job titles they have or you'll end up going crazy!
