'Barry' They sound like they're saying Berry. Then I ask them to say Harry and it actually sounds like it should sound. Strange!
They seem to laugh at the way I say 'water' though... As I guess it sounds like watta.

There's a place where they sell horses, Listowel, mispronounced as Lis tow well, like the efficient hauling away of a broken down car.

In Ottawa, most folk struggle with 'Thank you', particularly when I've held the door open for them.
Funny enough, Ottawans also struggle with Ottawa. Apparently, I work in Oddawa.

I have a hard time ordering a water as well. I have to slow it right down and hope by the time I've said 'a bottle of' they already know what's going to follow. 'Warerrr'
I've noticed that Canadians find it extremely difficult to say Edinburgh. They seem to pronounce it as Edin-burg or something similar.

Sticking with the north east there's Prudhoe, Bellingham and Hawick which I suspect not many in the UK would get right never mind Canadians.........

There is an area in Fredericton - Maugerville, which i was pronouncing Mawgerville. Apparently it's Majorville. I was wrong, they were right, it's their country after all.

They got me on that one too...that being said Mactaquack, Nackiawick and some of the other places haven't rolled off the tongue either and I've had to have a trial run.

I've stopped trying to ask for water at cafes & restaurants now. I just wait for everyone else in my party to say what they want and I just add "same". It's easier for all.
