Words that Canadians struggle with
#93
Really? Thing is, in my personal and professional lives in Canada, I can't recall either word coming up in conversation.
I'll see if I can work them in somehow.
Hey buddy, did ya watch that duodenum on the blue line for the Leafs last night, eh?
He got right up my oesophagus, he did, eh?

And "umbelikel" took me by surprise, apparently the med pronunciation swings.

How about British words that Brits might struggle with. I was born in the the parish of Ulgham.
How would you pronounce this?

Ulg-am or possibly Ulg-em. Sounds just a bit like vomiting, (no offence).

It's cheating to go to Google, isn't it?
Anyway , I will wait to see if anyone else comes up with the correct pronunciation.
Perhaps , Novo?

Can I google now?
Edit: I googled and know now that I should never underestimate the complexity of "gh" in Anglo-Saxon.
The embarrassing thing is that I've heard of that place, but had no idea of the spelling.

You were my last hope; for those who do not know the correct pronounciation it is' Uffam' . gh is often pronounced 'f' as in 'lough', laugh', cough, rough, tough.
