initially i much preferred edmonton, i did not like the yuppie feel and faster pace of calgary and the roads around there are a nightmare. edmonton felt rightly more blue collar and friendly, i love the river valley and the amount of festivals/concerts the capital attracts.
after a while though i started to notice all the industry, highest asthma rate in the world apparently east of the city, not surprising thats the prevailing wind from the refinery eh. that blue collar feel, which is my background, i think i have incorrectly interpreted, ignorant yokel may be more accurate. friendly though all the same. having said that i would take them over a manc or scouser any day of the week.
i think most of all the trip to the mountains the other week, through calgary made me notice how much cleaner it appears, and how nice it must be to be an hour away from the skiing.

From you recent posts I assumed it was due to the proximity of the Rockies.
I still don't really find the traffic in Calgary all that bad, although I do bitch alot more about it now than I did when I first came over. I still find it nothing compared to even small towns in the UK. The "lack of traffic" that I hear others talking about must be amazing if they think Calgary is bad.

picked calgary instead of edmonton.
shipped with someone other than whites.
left some funds in uk to change should exchange improve.
wait until winter to buy house, lost $40,000.
not bought car from someone in a porta cabin, blew up lost $3000. (yes i know but it was cheap and i was desperate).

We would have brought our bed and sofa and some kitchen stuff.
We would also have not used an immigration consultant and would have made sure we all turned up together, we had 6 weeks of one not thinking the other was supporting the other and vice versa with 15 minute daily phone calls that once you got the hellos and goodbyes in didin't leave much chance to talk about solicitors and house selling and new jobs etc.
But we got through it all and it's something to talk about

they have paid out for the damage they caused, though it was some time coming and a fraction of what it should have been. i could have done without the hassle. in true canadian fashion i have left my clothes and furniture in a state and spent the insurance money on skiing.

1. Come over sooner.
2. not brought so many clothes over - they are so cheap here.
3. brought more DVDs of British TV - Canadian TV leaves a lot to be desired!
4. Brought more of my CDs in hand luggage, they still havent arrived yet!
5. Not used the removal company we did - Robinsons.... definitely not believed their promises

Yeah they paid us out too in the end at a fraction. Hubby spent it on wheels or summat for whatever car we had then, probably the Camaro - dunno!

I wish I hadn't listened to my uncle in Winnipeg in the 80's who said that carpenters were out of work in Canada. Now I find myself on a pre-reccy visit in August, disguised as a holiday.

Thrown away the Corby trouser press. As opposed to bringing it here, dragging it around for several years and then throwing it away.

good luck
