Would not have assumed principle of common sense existed at CIC.
Would not have brought belongings from UK, other than clothing - much of which had been brought over on previous visits anyway. This as a single bloke. It might be different for a family.
Would not have bought so many items of furniture for new home all in one go. Regret buying 3 & 2 seater sofas for each of two rooms. 2 or 3 chairs would have been sufficient for the second room.

We don't have a rotti - two mutts from the dogs home (lab cross and collie cross). Both a good 8 years old when we came over last year. Both coped no problems with the flights - we were worried as the collie is pretty anxious, but within half an hour of picking them up they were great. Customs guy even commented on how well behaved they were (i do think they were a little bit shell shocked at that point though!)

Not been so girly and demanded on half filling my one suitcase that I brought over with random c**p that I now couldn't give a toss about.
For example
UK hair dryer and straighteners
Couple of pairs of shoes that are completely unsuitable
Couple of jackets that I thought I could never live without
Some jewellery and hairstuff
If you're gonna travel light do exactly that - its amazing how your attitude changes over here so you won't need half the stuff you brought.

She is 7 and she travelled fine. We also brought a (then 2 year old dog) who is now 3 and a bit. He travelled ok, but not as well as the bitch, as he is a big girl's blouse and pinned for us. He was in kennels for 2 days prior to the flight and refused to eat anything. The flight was then delayed for 24 hours. They both were fine after landing but the stress of knowing he was stressed stressed my OH out.
