What sucks about this forum?

That's not hypocrisy. That's realisation from people who have actually gone through the process and lived the life they dreamed of that there are bumps and glitches in their expected utopia. In a way they're trying to set realistic expectations for the future immigrants from the UK.
In fact a lot of the day to day hiccups that you take in your stride in the UK are amplified here due to lack of support network / knowledge of local contractors or help services.
Tanja without looking into your previos posts etc I don't know whether you are in Canada or not - but of you are then i'll wager you haven't been here that long and had to go through something shitty.
As ER said - not hypocritical just out and out truthful.
The two people that spring to mind, that I would reccomend anyone talk to about the downsides of life here would be LancashireBird and AmyDavid. Both are very happy here, but if Canada were a person - then both of these ladies would want to duck its head under water and not let it up until it promised to make life a little easier

Completely agree, no-one is trying to spoil anyones dreams, however it would be totally unrealistic fr anyone who's been here to sugar coat everythng.

You are so right about the ups and downs and what seems little in the uk seems massive here, drama in one's life would be washed over in the uk, but being so many miles away look worse...........

Well, excuse me! I'm a poppet. You seem to be suggesting that I'm an aggressive, pedantic wind-up merchant.

Mine too, she is one of very few gilrlies on here that can piece together sensible arguement, is not afraid to speak her mind, berates when needed and when she gives praise its meant.
And I don't mean that to be a slight against the other 99% of us ladies because I include myself in the majority too.

Because its Christmas and you tell the truth at christmas (quote courtesy of Love Actually!)
I think if I met the infamous members from out east, I'd be absolutely cacking myself - Dbd because hes way more wordly wise and would even walk all over me with his - erm - apparent expertise on all things not normal (re - shoes lol) and the others (Fled included) because they're so darn clever.
In all honesty I'd be a complete nervous wreck meeting Novo over anyone else on this forum.

Not sure about the voice of reason though, I had hoped to be more interesting than reasonable. I don't really say what I think, I hold back and wish I was more forthright...I've met Novo, he's a pussycat.
Anyway, what sucks about this forum? The really spiteful personal attacks that emanate from a choice few who can't seem to grasp the idea that others are allowed to have different opinions.

Certainly way less intimidating than his online persona. Mind you most people, 'in the flesh' are usually pretty normal. Even dbd33.

I did blame Canada and Canadians for a while, I was very depressed and close to a breakdown. It's hard to see reason then, to see the wood for the trees. We see some heart rending posts on here and I think that we should be a little more understanding of the possible reasons why people post what they do. Look beyond the words and read the subtext. Some are screaming out for some understanding and support. At the time I posted on here and had some replies that were downright cruel and when you are low they really do hurt. Some of the replies though were thoughtful and stated the truth which was hard to read but not hard on the psyche.
These days I like my life. I like the house we have, the place I work, the people I work with. This is where I live and for now I have no wish to go back to England, for now.
I don't hold with this bizarre notion that immigrants are not allowed to criticise anything about Canada. I live here, I contribute to society here and don't see why I should sit back and doff my cap to all things Canadian. If all immigrants had done that then there would be diversity, no multi culturalism. If I feel the need to seek out Jaffa Cakes and gammon that isn't disliking Canada. How long are you expected to live here before you can say anything negative???
Seeing everything in a rosy glow is not the mindset of a reasonable person.

I agree with what you have written apart from..
I did blame Canada and Canadians for a while, I was very depressed and close to a breakdown. i must admit i went through a simular stage, but it was actually brought on with some expats that i had met from here (truth be told, it was actually some canadian friends that brought me out of it, but i was ready to pack up and go back to the uk
How long are you expected to live here before you can say anything negative??? i believe that you will have negative about anywhere that you live, nowhere on this earth is perfect (well i havent found it yet)

But he also needs to start to help himself, he is very welcome to PM me, he needs support and he needs help

I know people who love it here, i also know people who have moved back to the uk as it didnt work for them, but i believe that we should all support each other when we need it...............
Hugs to you hun

North Americans will usually avoid whiners and complainers so it doesn't help in making friends and building networks.

I really dont think this forum is significantly different to how it was 5 years ago, people come and go, but the overall feel is about the same.
What changes is peoples perception and use of it I suspect, going from fear of the unknown, to optimism about a new experience, to the excitement of finally getting here, and them the realisation that much of day to day living is the same. Then there are the other bumps along the road that can happen wherever you live, changes in your personal circumstances, all of which will alter how you see things.
I agree with FMs comment earlier, personal attacks just because you dont agree with someone (or for any other reason) are totally unacceptable. I get tired of the constant sniping from the peanut gallery too, but there is only so much we can do. All I would say is if you see something offensive and out of line, report the post {! button}, that will bring it to the attention of the mod team, especially over the holiday season when its less likely the mods will see it for themselves.

Bullies and petty people...if some one posts an incorrect piece of info, let it go why start acting like a know it all and then intimidating other posters...to go on the advice of a internet forum is silly to begin with...you should always double check with the embassy or a lawyer...also there are a number of bum chums on here who gladly hijack genuine posters threads and start acting stupid and the original poster never gets the answers they need or someone gets attacked for no reason and the post goes off track and becomes rubbish...
I used to like posting on the site but am not really into it anymore as more and more people are just getting more and more petty....and i cant be bothered to deal with people attacking me or anyone else for that matter for no real reason...

North Americans in general (both Canadians and Americans) prefer and encourage a positive outlook on life. So even if there's bad times you find a way of coping and getting by.
North Americans will usually avoid whiners and complainers so it doesn't help in making friends and building networks.
