Chelsea have definitely improved of late. Coming good at the right time as they say.

Should be good to watch the CL semi final.

Apparently some of my posts on other teams strike a nerve with some posters.
Footie fans for years and years have shared banter and taken the piss out of each others clubs and yet can respect the teams and their performances.
This however has changed and with internet forums can lead to some very ugly comments being made and rather than banter or piss taking can become very personal.
Fans at matches sing aborrent songs about club tragedies, racism etc etc
which make me cringe and that includes Man Utd fans.
There have been some very witty and amusing chants heard on the terraces and some banners unfurled.
One in particular was unfurled at Anfield in 1994 which read
Au Revior Cantona and Man Utd Come Back When Youve Won 18.
At that time Liverpool had won 18 titles to Man Utds 7
Well its now 2012 and Man Utd are on the verge of winning their 20th title and Liverpool are still on 18.
Maybe for the next visit of Liverpool perhaps the Utd fans should unfurl a
banner that reads
Come back Liverpool when you have won 1 Premier League Title.
As a Utd fan in the 70s when we were winning nothing (odd FA Cup) and got relegated yes we got abuse from other fans and rightly so as we were shite.
Well now the shoe is on the other foot and payback is a bitch.
Hate Utd as much as you want and unfurl your witty banners but dont be surprised when it comes back to bite you.
BTW I could post some comments about Scousers that other posters have written on this thread but Im ok with being called a Manc twat.
Apology accepted.

Wait it was not an apology.

Fans at Premier League games are charged so much to watch games they are entitled to say what they like. I don't half miss some of the witty songs that the White Hart Lane faithful churned out over the years often about our own players and manager.

Other than that I am unmoved by fans of other clubs unless I know them and they have earned my respect with some sort of understanding of their club and it's roots.

As I alluded to up thread Manchester United fans are particularly easy to dismiss. They tend to associate with the brand more than the club and never really share any interesting insite into the game.

Not disimilar from all the people who wear New York Yankee's caps.

Fans have got to accept the fact that its not a game/sport anymore its a business.
I did my fair share of standing on the terraces in the wind, rain and odd bit of snow. I have bought tickets from touts (scalpers) but many fans have now been priced out of attending matches because of the business model.
Players are paid ridiculous amounts of money and can be quite demanding.
Even Rooney was a prat for doing what he did at contract time.
Even when Utd were relegated they still pulled in the highest gates.
If you look at most club these days their highest home attendance is usually against Utd. They are the club everyone loves to hate.
Sure all clubs have band wagon jumpers and the so called plastic fans but Utd have always had a huge following at Old Trafford before the corporate fans came along.
As for the comments about all Utd fans being from Surrey then you have to ask yourself why would they go to Manchester rather than watching a London club?
Other teams will get better and I bet in the future Utd will again have a lean spell but the local support will not falter.
I still watch the games on TV and watch other clubs matches as well so yes Im now officially an armchair fan.
Dismiss us as fans but our trophy cabinet speaks for itself and the team.

As you alluded to most of the people who claim to be fans live in places like BC and Surrey. The reason as we all know is because Manchester United is a brand that people whoo know little about football associate with so they can try and fit in with the world around them.

The trophy cabinet in Manchester has no more to do with you than the beautiful South African girl who sold me my coffee in Starbucks earlier.

Go and find your own success in life and stop jumping on a brand bandwagon.

Enough of such trivia. Andy Carroll scored. Come back when you have too.

I'd not have him back personally. His head's not right. Nile Ranger is our only problem child now, and he's on his way out. If Pardiola (class!) can work his magic on HBA but Nile is determined to stuff it up he can toddle off to someone else too. We've had enough problems with "personalities" around the club in the recent past.

I agree. Despite all the difficulties we've had I think the last player I regret Toon selling / chopping was Scott Parker in June 2007. Perhaps Milner in 2008 too.

Parker yes, Milner no.

Parker just wasn't happy up here, but we struggled to get our midfield right. Nolan was decent, but a very different role. Milner couldn't cross for sh1t when we sold him. We got a stupidly good price for an average player, coupled with the sell on clause.

Players I regret selling from semi-recent past:

Sir Les
Steve Watson
Aaron Hughes
Gary Speed

I can't think of many from the recent years (except Parker) who would fit into the category. Maybe Bellamy, although his finishing was atrocious when he was with us and he was also trouble. You're really going back to the SBR years to find them.

I think that's a bit harsh. Anyway I always thought he'd be better in a midfield position than as a winger.

Agreed on all four. Are you old enough to remember Jinking Jim Scott?

Milner just couldn't deliver. Whilst I'm not old enough, I do know some history. Was only back in the toon as a pre-teen from 1991 after hitches in Deutchland and Delaware as an expat brat. Ah, the days of Ardilles...

Another set of interesting results today. It seems that the title race isn't quite dead yet, that Arsenal will be 3rd and, as we already knew, Newcastle & Spurs are neck and neck for the last Champions League spot (advantage Spurs though on GD).

It's a funny old game.
