I believe so! Getting myself quite an education here. Here's little old me thinking all this man-stuff was really quite dull. Shame on me.
There must be more to it than first supposed: Now where is my periodic table of elements...?
I see no one has challenged the point I made with regards to the fairer sex being safer drivers (even anecdotally): I wonder why?

Sex really isn't a defining factor of 'good driving'.
I actually think my driving is getting worse the longer i drive i'm now coming up to 25 and am starting to drive like a pr1ck.

It's not anecdotal. In the UK women can get significantly lower premiums on the basis of lower claim rates for women in general. There are several firms that specialize in the area (Diamond, Sheila's Wheels etc). There are also firms that specialise in the grey market (oldies also make less claims). I think it would be hard to prove a discrimination case against an insurer on the basis that they were unreasonably discriminating, after all that's how insurers make their money by calculating the risks of different groups (usually so they can avoid the bad risks, such as young men).

The law in Canada isn't that unreasonable sexual discrimination isn't allowed but that sexual discrimination isn't allowed. If you except insurers from the law on the grounds of rationality then there's also a case for exempting them from the law against racial discrimination, we can't have that.

They cannot lawfully use sex or race as a group identifier. They do currently use age, presumably because people old enough to fund a legal challenge to the practise have no incentive to do so. They can't use sexual orientation either, otherwise I suppose the Subaru Legacy would attract very low premiums.

The women may be more careful in the UK.
But due to a significant amount of cars being automatic, the very common sight of a women chatting away on a cell phone and consumption of coffee or food on the highway would suggest that a noticeable percentage are far from safe
The mum in a hurry is reason enough to avoid travel in peak school hours, and again a noticeable participant in low speed rear-end shunts
