The smokers thread

The first pack you get explains it, but you titrate the dose up over a period of a week, and carry on smoking. You should have picked a quit day for anytime between day 8-14 and stop smoking on that day.

rosie OH is doing better than me, he quit the day before so i feel like im following him, but do crave one in morning still, think its the little devils in my head.
good on you rosie for making him go outside, better for when you put the house up for sale....
Kate pack them in, tell him you will stop smoking when he gets a job in canada

but you will have to stick to it if he does

It was his choice to go outside, its up to him if he wants to give up I think it has to be your own decision. I've stopped smoking so many times before due to people putting pressure on me and it never lasts, this time I WANT to give up for myself.

A friend of mine finally quit smoking by using hypnosis.
He had some sessions with a hypnotherapist and he found
it effective in taking away the cravings.

I did that young a few years ago, came out smoking more :curse::curse:
I think everyone has to find there cut off and really want to do it for them and not anyone else like rosie said.
We found when we was in canada not a lot of people smoked and cut down to about 3 aday, back in uk back to 20 plus after a few weeks, we said that when we go back we wanted to be non smokers, just sorting our next recci trip out and quess what - NON SMOKERS
although the stress of the last 24hrs have been high tring to sort everything out....fingers crossed we are neally there

She lasted about 5 minutes before all of the comments started to come out about stinking etc and went on for about half hour where by she had to leave the pub after screaming something like "howfn dare you fn bring me to an fn stinky place" and then punching her fiancee and walking out of the door.

Just the amazed look on her OH face would have been hillarious

I have only tried the gums - they tend to give me a sore throat though. Wasnt very successful but there again tried to give up smoking as Phil went to Canada - not a good time

Two of my close friends both went for Hypnosis - one was really successful and stopped without a problem. The other one had a really bad reaction to it. The Hypnotherapist must have planted the idea of how much smoking smells and after she had had the hypnosis she went to join her OH in the pub.

Good point ,never know what kind of aversion the hynnotherapist
would plant in the smoker's mind.Don't want kate to be in trouble

Well having read bits and pieces of this thread since it started i can now reveal that i quit 2 weeks before coming to Canada and haven't had one since.
It was and still is hard when i smell cigarettes close by and there are times when i could easily light one up but i promised the kids i would quit when we moved out here and it's more than my lifes worth to go back to it.
I have put on weight but find that the eating anything and everything phase has slowed down now and a bag of lemon sours helps when i'm feeling like a ciggy.
I didn't use patches or gum but did have one of those inhalator thingies for the first 2 weeks which was ok but not the same as the real thing.

not good and horrible feeling when going through the withdrawal. You need to attend
a program to help you quit.(that is when you are ready to quit.)

Hi
I'm new to this site, Just been reading all entries. It's great to hear about successes. I've been smoking for about seventeen years. I am also thinkingabout giving up. I don't have much will power really, however, I used to smoke alot in work, From 1st of July since go smoke free came in company went step further and banned smoking from whole site, smokers now have to stand at the entrance to the site, don't think that is right for senior management to be seen smoking at the entrance, so I haven't smoked in work since 1st of July.
Had medical in June. I was also worried about what might appear on the xray, not had any comments back though. Recieved passport request last week.
I will at some point use the patches I have in my possession.
