Say something good about the UK
#76
I don't understand. this thread is about saying good things about the UK, and you've just admitted you had 10 hours gorging on Flakes, chicken tikka masala sandwiches, footy mags and cask-conditioned ales.
When I was in Fort McMurray, that would have made Heathrow sound like a fantastic holiday destination.

When buying the footy mags and flakes the fellow in front of us with a strong mancunian accent was buying the Economist, the Daily Mail, the Times and a wank magazine. He told the zoned out cashier 'i'm covering all bases and points of view, luv'. My 16 year old son remarked to me after 'you don't get that at the local Macs Milk'

I am unable to 'say' anything "good" about the UK. If I lived in the UK I may 'say' things that are 'bad' about the place or maybe something good.

That aside half the things mentioned are exclusive to being in the UK so only affect us living here in so much as we don't have them.
Canada may look better on these points
but it's not because the politicians or honest or because the poor get a fair deal
Somehow, not having something to begin with doesn't seem as bad as having something and having it taken away. And the excesses of the politicians seem even more excessive than they once were.
I suggested the treatment the native population after Bristol asked for an example of where the UK was 'the lesser of two evils' compared to Canada. So given that they are still subject to discriminatory legislation today, it's probably in the context of both today and historically.

I think Oakvillian can relate to the subject matter here:

All very well with this banter, but the truth is that the UK (despite the current hiccup, soon to be vomited away) is a vastly pleasanter place to be.
