ha ha. The problem was we didn't want to be there. We wanted to be in Nice on the Cote D'Azur. Cask Conditioned ales were in short supply. Heineken, Kronenburg and other euro fizzy swill was easy to get.

When buying the footy mags and flakes the fellow in front of us with a strong mancunian accent was buying the Economist, the Daily Mail, the Times and a wank magazine. He told the zoned out cashier 'i'm covering all bases and points of view, luv'. My 16 year old son remarked to me after 'you don't get that at the local Macs Milk'

I am unable to 'say' anything "good" about the UK. If I lived in the UK I may 'say' things that are 'bad' about the place or maybe something good.

Pork pies? It's strange to hear describing something as very nice as being dismissive. That aside half the things mentioned are exclusive to being in the UK so only affect us living here in so much as we don't have them.

Canada may look better on these points
I'm not sure it does, nor am I really saying that.

but it's not because the politicians or honest or because the poor get a fair deal
The poor in Canada don't get a fair deal. The thing about this though is they never did.

Somehow, not having something to begin with doesn't seem as bad as having something and having it taken away. And the excesses of the politicians seem even more excessive than they once were.

I thought that mostly a mix of 'plain old' personal discrimination rather than legislative. Maybe I'm wrong. But there has been compensation for past wrongs.

I figured you would be a Kinks fan as they are from within the North Circular and not one of those bands from the provinces.

Muswell Hillbillies. Waterloo Sunset is, of course, something good about the UK.

All very well with this banter, but the truth is that the UK (despite the current hiccup, soon to be vomited away) is a vastly pleasanter place to be.

ETA: Nonetheless we're in France now, which is even better.

A proper fry up with real bake beans.

Cornish Pasty.

Last but not least real chips.

And real sport on the back pages.
