We are going to Dublin on Monday and London the week after so he will get to see it all, it's just my shopping and stocking up on certain things that are better/cheaper then the Canadian equivalent is much much more important right now

It's taken me years to remember/register that when visiting Ontario I can't just "pop out" to buy beer/alcohol at the corner store at 10.55pm...

Basically the law is that it's illegal for under 19 year olds to drink but that does not apply when the alcohol is provided by the parents in their own home. The guy got upset because apparently my son touched one of the cans, he wasn't carrying it, he didn't even put it in the basket, he just touched it. It is legal for 18 year olds to serve alcohol at their place of work, so I am not sure why the touching it was such a big deal either.

Just got treated like a criminal at the LCBO for asking my 18 year old son if he had a preference of type of beer. I am clearly his mother, it's perfectly legal to give your own children alcohol in your own home, plus if we had driven a few Kms down the road to Quebec he could have legitimately bought it for himself.

I have never had a problem before which is why I was a bit shocked. Most of last year it was just the two of us in the house (other son at University and OH working away). My son isn't much of a drinker but he does like to try new things so we had got into the habit of checking out the weird brews at the liquor store . We pick out the ones we like the look of and share a can just before dinner. It's hardly encouraging over drinking and it has been a lovely bonding thing as while we drink our small glass each we chat about the day. I am sad that I can't really do that now without worrying about being accused of child abuse at the checkout.

Let your son peruse the different beers online with you, then pop in and purchase them yourself perhaps? Some you can order online too. Beer & Cider
