Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
When I'm watching a foreign movie or TV series with subtitles, sometimes I can be so absorbed that after, I need to remind myself it was subtitled because it got to the point where it didn't seem like it.
I had a new experience last night when watching Bon Cop Bad Cop 2. I don't know why it is but bilingual Quebecois (I'd rather say Quebecker but Quebecois sounds more intelligent;)) will often change from French to English and back. So, in BCBC2 there's dialog and I'm reading the subtitles. Then the other guy suddenly responds in English and I think wait, what dd he say? There was no subtitle and I am so tuned in to reading that I missed the line when he spoke my language. :o It happened a few times before I was able to adapt and be ready for another change. |

Haven't tried that new place yet....heard its good though! However to be fair I do enjoy Shafiq's taste of Inida.....Shafiqu knows me by name when I pop in for my Chicken Vinadaloo takeout!
Just my humble opinion but thought it was better than Shafiq's. Anyway, good curry finally comes to Ptbo. Hurrah! |

Having lived with Quebeckers by the time I saw the first one it was great fun. |

I'll second Bats on that, Paul. We tried it the other day and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It was also very busy in there (a good sign too, albeit probably the "new" factor).

That must have been the original as BCBC2 is only recently out. If you enjoyed it, you'd enjoy 2 too.

Yep, ads galore for me as well from Sears. But I won't be going to any of their stores, I haven't bought anything from Sears in a long time, we did go through a store last spring, but it was so unpleasant we left, half the store was empty with nothing in it.
The writing was on the wall for years.

You too...I only ordered from them when the mother in law was still in Quebec (until 2011) and it was convenient to have stuff delivered there.
I used to get about two emails a year but lately it's been 2 or 3 times a week. I was hoping one of the offers was a power recliner but not so far and I wouldn't risk it now. However, if the number of emails was an indication of going bust, goodye Amazon, Staples and BestBuy. |

Rain and hail at the airport today. Currently seeking shelter due to a lightning warning.
Delayed flights. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Winter is here... First I have seen deicing out this season.
Apparently in a 1 hour period this morning YVR saw 16mm of rain. Airside roads had some flooding. |

Trees seem to be changing later then usual around here this year, they have finally started to change, I recall last fall my maple tree lost its leaves in Sept, still has leaves and just now changing colors.
Government agency vs landlord amusing at times, government agency isn't patient and landlord works at glacial speed to fill out a simple form, government agency gets pissy over it. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Bit of a rant coming up:
I’ve learned my lesson about trying to *give* stuff away (items of furniture in good condition) via local internet/fb groups... Multiple messages from people who haven’t read the details in the ad posted (first come first served, can’t deliver, etc etc), a lot of time wasted replying, then more time wasted waiting around for them not to turn up and fetch item(s). It happened a couple of years ago with decent sofa, and again recently with a decent table. Lesson learned: call local charity place, schedule pick-up, pick-up happens on schedule, job done. And watch charity sell them for silly prices (NB: good for charity). |

A woman was really grateful even though she only needed a mattress but I made it plain it was altogether - getting rid of those bits for me was no easier than all of it. She turned up wanting only the mattress. :frown: Fortunately her husband was there and he did the fair thing. Lesson learned: call local charity place, schedule pick-up, pick-up happens on schedule, job done. And watch charity sell them for silly prices (NB: good for charity). Last xmas I bought some theatre tickets for The Snow Queen for four but we couldn't go. I offered them to a family charity but it took a couple of reminders to get a response. Something similar happened with in date insulin I no longer needed (quite a lot and some syringes when I was changing to cartridge method) and it took me about 5 contacts and two arrangements with an organisation that includes a clinic. Another place was only interested if I could deliver. I couldn't so that was collected by the city for dumping. |

They wouldn't come and get it. So in the end we took it all to the Goodwill centre. |

When we left Calgary in 2011 we basically had the contents of a 4 bed house to give away (we weren't taking much home as we already had everything in the UK too).

Working from home with very little contact with colleagues (apart from the odd skype chat) is isolating too.. sometimes I don't speak to a soul for days :( Still, we have to look on the bright side.. at least we are working! :) |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
True.
Learned today I need new boots for work, they leak water now and feet are soaked. Horrendous rain today even for Vancouver.

First footballers started doing it (speaking behind the hand) and now politicians.
