Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
This year there are many mega poppies (about a foot in diameter) attached to lampposts etc. Is that really necessary?

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Living in an apartment with interior hallways and locked front door makes it super difficult to receive parcels.
UPS claims to have tried today but they never buzzed. The item is 50 pounds so not like I can take it on the scooter hence why I wanted delivery...lol |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
And of course UPS has to take Monday off so they won't even try to deliver until Tues.
Lazy lazy driver didn't even try to deliver it. I am ticked off as Tuesday there will not be anyone home so who knows when I'll get it at this point |

I just found out that my Grandfather signed up at the start of WW1 at the age of 14 - lying about his age - and served until the war ended.
Here's a picture of him at the end of the war, age 18, with his wife-to-be (my Grandmother).. so young, so much horror to have seen. |

So...
The woman in Iran, taking her new child to visit her parents there on holiday - sounds more convincing than hiking in Afghanistan - and arrested/charged with helping to overthrow government by training journalists.... Ratcliffe (the husband) said on Monday he had written to the government asking for ministers to be reminded she was in the country on holiday at the time of her arrest. “I wrote to the Foreign Office and said, listen, can you please remind cabinet ministers the government’s position is that the government has no doubt that Nazanin was there on holiday,†he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Monday. Why "the government's position is..." which sounds sort of contrived, a little like recognition of one thing but they are taking the view it was something else? |

Exactly... the husband had to send a message to the UK's chief diplomat that it's not a good idea to suggest that the wife was on a subversive mission.
Boris the Buffoon strikes again. Never mind that the poor woman is still in prison, at least he got some attention. |

It looks more than a little like the parties got together previously, realised something might look a bit dodgy so agreed a "position" which may be at slight variance with reality. Only for one of those involved to "let the side down" :( |

I see the moron has issued another typical blustering quasi-apology. "I'm sorry if I made myself look bad by dropping you in it", basically.

Multiple phone calls and emails. Yesterday they decided the shipment ID they gave me (5 times) is invalid. Radio silence since. I have given up hope. |

I have given up hope. No attempted delivery notice left either which they normally do, so to me the driver seems to never even have stopped by. Yesterday was a holiday here so they were closed. Today tracking just shows in transit sitting at their depot (not open to the public) so who knows if it will be delivered since it doesn't show out for delivery and there is no estimated delivery date like normally is. This parcel only went Burnaby to Vancouver which is a mere 15 km or so away. Only reason I need it delivered as it's 50 pounds and I cannot take a 50 pound item on the scooter...lol Next time I will ask the store to put it in a taxi... |

For you medical people on here, can you self-administer a defibrillator machine?

Where DOES the North begin? The North/South divide is under scrutiny again - BBC Three
Based on the first map shown I grew up on the north/not north line which could explain a lot about me. I love the quote that the north is 'not a place but a state of mind.' Watching that video makes me weep for the future and the appalling lack of just basic general knowledge. We all laugh at americans and their lack of knowledge about basic geography/world events but this video isn't far off. |

Just been looking at an article on that place to see where it is. Quite convenient if you're "a stone's throw away" in Arizona ;) They're being done apart and two of them require something more specialist than usual (2 for $3500 1 @ $1000) so maybe two would be more than $350 US each. Out of curiosity I checked flights - about $1000CAD return. Convert the $1050 US to CAD = $1400, so $2400. Maybe extra for the 'complicated' two and then accommodation/other costs over a couple of weeks. Might not be too much difference overall other than seeing a new part of the world that doesn't really appeal. I suppose I could always be kidnapped and have my teeth removed one at a time and sent back with the ransom notes. |
