Generally agree but we should not underestimate the number of batshit right wing loons in Canada. Pat King, for example, is a Canadian.

So where is the equivalent of the US Truck Convoy that is influencing Canadian Truckers? I have heard that they are attempting to assemble one for a ride to DC but so far it has not materialized.

I think it is misguided to think that all the Canadian truckers participating are unvaccinated. I believe the only issue is that the Canadian government wants to MANDATE that every Canadian, from infancy to dying senior citizen, including every resident, visa holder, and native.

If unvaccinated, no work, no medical care, only a government that was voted into power turning its back on its citizens.

As has been noted by someone on social media it never was mandated that you needed to be vaccinated for the flu, measles, mumps, polio, smallpox, etc. There was and still are a large number of citizens on both sides of the border who are not vaccinated for diseases for which there are effective medical protection.

It seems late in the day, but a Canadian truckers thread might have been an idea.

.

That is very wide of the mark. Firstly, it's not the Canadian government that passes the mandates. In the case of the truck driving related mandates it's the US government and the Provincial governments in Canada. The parade is protesting to the Prime Minister but it's nothing to do with him. Secondly, the mandates apply to people who want to work. If someone wants to stay at home and not be vaccinated then they're free to do that. Few people are that stupid but the option is there.

The protestors should be towed as if they were BLM or Stanley Cup protestors. It's not acceptable that they're allowed to camp in the streets just because their political views align with those of the police.

Towing would be expensive. Simply closing the streets to traffic not permitting the truck owners to be in the closed area might be enough to delete the protest.

I suspect that you know that that is not true. The Federal government is the one that has jurisdiction over what happens at the border. I agree that, even if the Canadian government removed its restrictions, the truckers would still have to deal with the US's requirements.

They are also requesting the removal of all mandates and I agree that not all of them are within the jurisdiction of the Federal government. The ones for Federal workers are, the ones for international travel are and there may be some others too. The ones that don't allow you to go to a restaurant or attend a hockey game are, likely, within the jurisdiction of the Provinces just as some municipalities have imposed their own too.

I believe the federal government jurisdiction over what happens at the borders is immigration related. You may recall that in Atlantic Canada the provinces virtually closed the borders at the beginning of the pandemic. Obviously this was mostly province to province but for New Brunswick it included Maine. People coming into the province "without good reason" were sent back using the provincial powers.

I have heard numerous reports on CBC that it is a Provincial matter rather than federal presumably because Health matters are for the provinces and vaccine mandates are Health matters.

How that's actually done is another matter but truck drivers are subject to additional checks, not just those of immigration, so there are opportunities.

Replace "not true" with "not as simple as all that", then, yes, I know, but, IMO, the vaccine mandates are a sideshow to the protest which is really a generalized wail against the federal government and the population that elected that government.

I corrupted my 13-month old grandson yesterday. His parents weren't looking so I gave him Marmite on toast. He loved it.

I haven't finished. At the moment I believe there are only two franco quebeckers fully versed in the use of the word "bolloc......".

I'll get cracking on him when he starts to speak.

Unvaccinated people are not denied medical care. Work is dependent on the employers rules. I worked in healthcare and had to have certain vaccines for employment The flu shot was never compulsory but if there was an outbreak you weren't allowed to work. Pretty much the same as is happening now. I've never travelled anywhere where vaccinations were necessary but I've known many people frantic to get shots for all kinds of exotic diseases they might encounter on vacation.

I believe that their protest started with their issues with the international border.

I have to admit that I am not aware of any current issues with travel between the Provinces but, if there is, I accept that that would be a provincial government issue.

Has anyone suggested that? Even before it happened it was claimed that most of them were vaccinated and that they were just against the mandate to do so.

Neo-Nazis and QAnon: how Canadian truckers’ anti-vaccine protest was steered by extremists
The so-called “freedom convoy” – which departed for Ottawa on 23 January – was the brainchild of James Bauder, an admitted conspiracy theorist who has endorsed the QAnon movement and called Covid-19 “the biggest political scam in history”...'Hold Fast Canada' had organized pickets of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s headquarters, where they claimed that concentration camps had already been introduced in the country. Another group, Action4Canada, launched legal challenges to mask and vaccine mandates. In one 400-page court filing, they allege that the “false pronouncement of a Covid-19 ‘pandemic’” was carried out, at least in part, by Bill Gates and a “New World (Economic) Order” to facilitate the injection of 5G-enabled microchips into the population.
We already know the gofundme page has been cancelled and donations are to be refunded because it's not what it originally seemed.
Since they have arrived in Ottawa, the extreme elements of the protest have been visible: neo-Nazi and Confederate flags were seen flying, QAnon logos were emblazoned on trucks and signs...
