I haven't seen that desposit system for a cart here in ages but the supermarket closest to our house has something built in to the buggy that locks the buggy once you get too far away from the building itself so you can't take it off the property..which I've seen before.

Wandered over to the west side of Vancouver today. Can tell people who live over there are wealthier, the streets are nicer, the houses and yards nicer, didn't seen any zombies or even any graffiti, much more pleasent on that side of the city. Went into a Loblaws store, people with money are willing to pay more I guess for a nice shopping experience, clean store with good air conditioning, pleasent shopping experience, well controlled and designed social distancing. Prices were certainly higher item that is 2.99 at No Frills was 4.99 at Loblaws, same president choice product, nothing different about it. Meat looked higher quality as well, less fat on it, but again higher priced.
Sure beats the crazy free for all at No Frills and Super Store where social distancing isn't possible at all.
I do think living on that side of the city would be far more pleasent, East side is dirtier, and more crime.

It might feel more pleasant to you but I’d take downtown or East Van over it. Feels so sterile over there.

Our Farmers Market was open today! It should have been Saturday, but Friday night we had a localized freak weather event focused on a very small bit of Freddie, which left 13,000 of us without power, flooding and 30 odd big trees downed, hailstones the size of a dollar! So it had to be postponed.
It felt like a vestige of normal life returning...the (safely distanced) queues at the cheese section were phenomenal!
A nice selection of face masks...all locally made by people considerably more capable than me with a needle
