From the article it says he was born to an Iranian father and British mother...one would think he would have been a British citizen and entitled to leave the airport once liased with the British authorities to claim citizenship. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I'm struggling to get enthusiastic about this World Cup. I love the WC, it's usually the most exiting sporting thing ever for me, but this one with all the political/social/cultural issues is just soul sapping. I'll watch and hope that England, US, Wales ( as a child I always cheered on Scotland but they're rubbish atm) and Canada do well but just with a lot of anxiety about this tournament.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I think the tournament may not even finish, once a fan is shot by the trigger happy security the Saudis have drafted in its game over. I also think that all the injuries that are keeping top players out are injuries of convenience because the players don't want to go. Bet they are all miraculously fit once the tournament is over

Normally by now I have rewatched "on the march with Bobby's army" and other compilations; made a note of dates and times of most matches so as not to make arrangements that clash; completed a spreadsheet to try and project the later knockout ties; read the articles about teams and venues, players to watch out for etc.
Not this time. But I have watched the video of the latest version of the greatest football song ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubRBLAHjkTo&t=237s Any predictions. England to make it to the quarters or semis and hopefully Maguire will be on the bench. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
To be honest, I have no interest in the World Cup this year, and it's all down to the fact that it's in Qatar only because they bribed their way to get it, and then killed over 6,000 immigrant workers, making them work in unsafe conditions. Then there is also the fact that they are actively imprisoning and execution people because of their sexuality. There are plenty of other channels, and I was watching football today, WSL between Chelsea and Spurs.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I've decided that from January 1st, I'll only be watching videos in 1080p or higher. It's my New Year's Resolution.

If you were visiting Montreal for the weekend (not GP) which area would you stay in?

Nushka met a spicy creature last week. A week later, she's all better and the spicy thing is in a trap waiting for the trapper man to collect it. It will go in the cooking pot apparently.https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...12390c6f73.jpg

Yes a porcupine got into her area. We've never seen one before. We were at the emergency vet within 15 minutes. An hour later she had been knocked out, quills removed and was ready to come home. The vet said there was just over 20 quills and she was the nicest chow she's ever met. Never want that to happen again.
Good to know she received prompt treatment and is A-OK. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I'm not allowed to feed the birds anymore. It was attracting the animal. It's a bummer because I was getting some lovely birds. Now I have a massive bag of seed to give away. Lol.

My mother in law gets through about $20 a week on peanuts in shells for the squirrels but plenty of birds join in too. This is my MIL Spoiler:
 |

Our doctor is retiring. There is not a single doctor in the Red Deer area accepting patients. More are retiring. There are no new ones coming. We have been advised to ask friends to ask their drs if they will take us on.
What a nightmare. |

What a nightmare. You can't just tell yourself you'll be okay because your doc is too young to retire because they may be enticed over the border. :( |
