From watching that footage, Id say it was staged... the reason I say that is because Chris Rock's rock reaction was not at all shocked, he didn't hold his chin, or have any reaction to tell us it came as a surprise... the only thing that did look real was Will Smith's face when he shouted at him angrily... but he's a professional actor, thats what he excels at. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Zelenskyy singled out UK for his praise. Its true, Britain seems to be punching above its weight and has provided more military help than most. They are in the process of providing “new type of weapon†to Ukraine. Not sure what but could be ballistic missiles. Foreign Office has been very consistent in its messaging as well.
At the same time Zelenskyy took a well deserved swipe at Macron. His regular discussions with Putin are beyond confusing. They are helpful to Putin. An average Russian knows that corruption and mismanagement messed up the economy but he thinks that Putin is a smart operator and ensured that Russia is “respected†on international arena. The best way to debunk this myth is to ignore the war criminal. Biden got this right ever since their meeting. Instead Macron keeps stroking Putin’s ego. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/z...cron-krdwj9jqb |

On another thread (Living and Moving Abroad, "Rest of the World" item #39, if you want to read it), I reminisced about my wedding in Toronto in 1967 - January, in the snow. I remember our reception was at the Four Seasons Hotel - but when I tried to track it down I discovered that there were actually two of them. Can anybody tell me which one would be the more likely to have hosted the event. There were only 20 of us there (it was an expats-only event, pretty much), so I'm not talking about a big "do". Thanks for any help.

https://www.fourseasons.com/about_fo.../1960_to_1969/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_S...dences_Toronto The older one - you sent the photo - is a very distinctive style, so you'd think I'd remember that. But no... The older one was downtown, so that must have been it. No address is given, but "downtown" would have been reasonably close to the Church, I guess. I couldn't find the actual address. After the whole shebang was over, we went back to our flat at Bloor & Spadina. I've found that on the map, so that will have to do! Thanks again. |

Thanks, bats. I guess this (the link at the top) must have been the one. I had in my mind The Inn on the Park, but the one I was looking for was not a huge building like that one.

Peterborough at its finest. Every week these morons mass around the City Hall, threaten and harrass people. downtown is a pretty unpleasant place to be. |

I double checked earlier to make sure they were the same. I've still never seen one with fish and chips though  Of course I'd never seen coleslaw and gravy with fish and chips until Canada either. But this report is a Brit thing, so maybe regional? Like mushy peas  |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Well I guess as Brits living in Canada we have to adapt or find a place who can anticipate what it is what we want. At least if ordering fish and chips you usually end up with coleslaw and a wedge of lemon and asked if you want gravy as a side.
Chippy style gravy only goes on pie and chips or steak puddings. How many times have you had to ask for malt vinegar rather than the white crap they put out with the ketchup. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I've never had gravy with fish and chips but I have to say I'm not averse to the idea. What's not to like?
