Could it have been the original Four Seasons Motor Hotel at Jarvis and Carlton? THere are some pictures here https://robertmoffatt115.wordpress.c...-four-seasons/

My local chippy at uni - about 5 doors down from the house I lived in so heavily frequented by me and housemates - had jars of pickled eggs, gherkins and onions on the counter. A pickled egg with a chicken pie and chips was a go-to combo if it was close enough to closing time that we didn't want to make the owner have to fry up a fresh batch of fish (was always wise to keep in his good books....)

I guess its only slight different to having "chip shop curry sauce" with your fish and chips which is as popular a side as mushy peas in some parts of the UK

Stop it. One can only imagine the fragrance of curry sauce, mushy peas, gravy and fish and chips washed down with a pint of Guinness.

I heard something on CBC this morning about how only 6% survive a heart attack outside of a hospital in Nova Scotia.

Of course my natural reaction to this was thinking that having a heart attack outside a hospital was quite a good place to have one, if you were going to.

Humour aside...a quick bit of googling suggests that's actually quite normal, even if quite surprising.

‘Disgusting’ behaviour at Canadian police undercover training course sparks inquiry

I enjoy a movie or tv show where someone goes under cover and has to convince the bad guys he really is a bad guy as much as anyone but...

Policing experts in Canada have called for an overhaul of undercover tactics after reports that officers at a training session participated in “disgusting, appalling” behaviour, including penetrating a colleague using a vegetable, defecating on another and exposing genitalia. According to Global News and CTV, the BC Municipal Undercover Program was abruptly shut down after the workshop in May, which included a role-playing exercise in which some participants went to “extreme lengths” to prove they were not officers.

i was thinking about Pukka Pies and chips with curry sauce. The pie must be upside down exposing the soft underbelly for easy attack. Or maybe a giant spring roll with chips and curry sauce. Those were the days

When I'm working at my computer with the headset on, every time I take a sip of tea or water I wonder what would happen if the mike dipped into my mug. Instant electrocution?

If anyone wants to try this out for me and (hopefully) report back I'd be very grateful.

Having spent decades in the UK, almost 2 decades in NJ and now in Ontario…I never, ever complain about it being too hot.

It's the fact that they used the term at all in a CV that appals me, not whether it's mathematically correct or not. Anyway, I looked up Gen Y (aka Millenials) and it is generally accepted to be the generation born mid-1990s to early 2000s. So chances are a Gen Y would comfortably have around 20 years of work experience by now.

To be fair, he did say he had a decade of experience in the energy industry. He may well have had a previous decade or two of experience in another industry, but we'll never know because I deleted it before I got any further.

I also Googled "T2F" but drew a blank apart from a knitting reference?

Some of us will be familiar with 5 Guys Burger stores in Canada. Cant say I use them very often as I find better burgers and prices at mom and pop burger bars.

So they have opened one in Preston and the local paper sent a reporter.

We sent reporter Hannah Bridgeman down to the sample the menu and report back to readers. Her order included the ‘Little Bacon Cheeseburger’ (£7.35), and ‘Little Cajun Fries’ (£3.15) with a refillable drink (£3.75), and a Five Guys Shake Oreo Cookie flavoured (£5.25). The total stacked up up to £19.50 – not unsubstantial but, reported Hannah, well worth it.

So using the local Canadian store the Little Bacon Cheeseburger is $9.59 Little Cajun Fries $4.49 Regular Drink $3.09 (Large) $3.29 and Oreo Cookie shake $5.79 subtotal $29.46 probably plus 1.47 GST and PST $2.06 = $32.99

Rough conversion 19.50 x 1.56 = $30.45.

Does that seem reasonable to pay over $30 for that which would be considered a lunch meal?

Had Five Guys in Buffalo two weeks ago, from what I recall for two of us - bacon cheeseburger, and cheeseburger, fries, one medium drink, one large drink - it was about US$30, which I thought was fairly reasonable for two of us.

Putting aside the Canadian total appears to include a regular drink and a large one, why have a shake as well? Is that supposed to be a dessert?

Whenever we order delivery I stay away from 'combos' as a 2l bottle from the supermarket and out of our fridge is a way better deal. If I was ordering that, I'd stick with the burger and fries for $14 plus tax making it just over $16. Perhaps if I was out and eating it in the burger bar I might want a drink but if I'm eating for only $16 I'd balk at the price jump for pop out of principle.

If eating in a posh restaurant where the meal was $160 and the wine added $40+ I'd view that entirely differently even though it's all proportionate.
