Seinfeld, to me, is probably the last US big network show I watched to any great extent and to this day the catch phrases from that show still resonate with many people my age. I do find it amusing that amongst the most popular Netflix shows, Friends and the Office (US) and Modern Family, are relatively old and Netflix is just a forum to show syndicated shows without adverts. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Netflix in a way has found itself in a corner of sorts as big content makers like Disney (who also owns most of Fox television and movie library in addition to Marvel and Star Wars) and others wised up and got on the streaming service gravy train, but the Netflix is losing rights to a good chunk of content due to this shift, so they have to produce a lot of content themselves and strike deals with companies like Sony who owns Seinfeld but doesn't have their own streaming service.
In the US the office (US version) has departed Netflix and moved over to NBC owned Peacock service. Friends is owned by Warner Media which now has its own streaming service in HBO Max so Netflix in US and Canada has lost Friends as well, leaving Netflix US in 2019 and Canada end of 2020. If NBC had owned the rights to Seinfeld, I imagine they would have put it on Peacock as well but the network shows air on are not always owned by the Network. In the US Netflix doesn't have rights to Modern Family but it can be found on Disney backed Hulu as well as NBC's Peacock, Disney owns the rights to Modern Family as they own 20th Television which produced the show and of course Disney owns ABC the network that aired it. The big content owners and producers in the US are trying to kill or at least make it very difficult for Netflix as they have far bigger budgets and deeper pockets than Netflix especially Disney, they own a lot more than just the stuff branded Disney. Netflix has been bleeding subscribers in North America, but they are seeing growth in Asia, but they face an uphill battle content wise in North America as their licensing deals expire and not being renewed as Disney, NBC, Warner etc build their own streaming services.

Watching Comedians getting coffee in Cars etc showed to me how self-absorbed and unworldly he is. I ended up just watching random episodes to see people I was interested in or if I was interested in the vintage car he was driving.

Tragic accident in Vancouver Wednesday morning, a man getting food at McDonalds drive thru dropped his debit/credit card, presumably opened the door to get it, and the car rolled forward pinning him between the car and the door jamb.
He died at the scene. Hopefully McDonalds provides some crises counselors for the workers, that must have been horrible for them to witness. https://bc.ctvnews.ca/driver-fatally...thru-1.5577225 |

The big content owners and producers in the US are trying to kill or at least make it very difficult for Netflix as they have far bigger Netflix is valued at about 250 bn. Disney is worth half that amount so “killing†Netflix would be an uphill struggle. The number of N American subscribers is still increasing albeit at a somewhat slower pace. https://www.statista.com/statistics/...ers-in-the-us/ |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
They sort of fixed the heat, its not as bad now, but its still not fully off which sucks, but eh once it cools off for winter, leaving the window will keep things comfortable, but come March, they better fix it for good as I am not going through another summer like this one with heat blasting all day, everyday.
Retail employers are a pain the rear end, my wife got a temporary retail job, and at the interview she specifically said no more than 4 hour shifts 3 times per week, they agreed, but now this week she had 5 shifts, which is greater than 3, next week they went to the 3 agreed upon, but its a constant battle, and retailers often, well most low paying jobs do, agree to one thing at hire, than don't following through with their end of the agreement, very frustrating, for the low pay, these jobs sure demand the world from people. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I am getting tired of the electricity blackouts, but this next one annoys me at its from 5pm to 5am so hard to sleep through it like the last one, and its the premiere day for Law & Order SVU but without electricity the DVR wont be powered to record it, and I have waited all summer for this night to finally have new episodes again.
Overall this is the 3rd or 4th long one since we moved into this place, plus 2 or 3 others in the last place, all in under a year, guess the power lines are old or something in this area. |

Disney expects to hit 300-400 million across all its platforms by 2024. |

Canadian's on average seem to be getting deeper into the debt hole, $1.73 in debt for every dollar they made in the 2nd quarter up from $1.59.
Debt is apparently growing at a record rate. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
A few days ago I was checking the cameras at work and looking for my feral cats, and got a surprise. A raccoon came walking between the buildings and went straight through. It's the first one I've seen on cam, and the first one I've seen in central Regina. (there are loads of them in the country though, so no real surprise) There are quite a few wild animals living in the inner city, and the odd moose or deer or bear comes to town by accident.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Vancouver is loaded with racoons and not just any old racoons fat ones some so fat they barely seem capable of properly walking, but urban racoon life has more food than a racoon will ever need.

The town houses here are quite spacious, almost makes me wish we had a kid, they are 1,300 sq feet and 2 levels with 2 bedrooms on the upper level, they also have nicely fenced in back yards, I could handle that kind of rental.

Actually probably very few celbrities I would recognize and my brain fast enough to pull the name out, I have met a few in my years at various airlines and hotels, let just say while some celebs are indeed down to earth nice people, eh some are just jackasses and pain in the butt to have around. Freddy Highmore was down to earth, but then he was living at our hotel for months on end so get got to know everyone, but every morning he would call to see if his call sheet had been dropped off, always "good morning, sorry to bother you, but has my call sheet been dropped by yet." but in his normal voice which his accent which threw me off a few times because everything I have seen him in, he uses an American accent. Some you know are staying in the hotel, but they are like ghosts and you never see them, usually those are the big stars with an entourage to do everything, where smaller less known actors are more self sufficient. Sports teams suck, few working in a hotel look foward to sports teams, doesn't matter if its high school or pro or college, something about sports teams that leaves the hotel a mess, noisy and lack of respect, and usually some violence if its hockey, in 2010 canucks players, well some were staying in the extended condo place I was working front desk, one night after the game they went out and got drunk a few did, and something happened over a lady they met, and eh they went all out fight club in the elevator, nearly had to call the cops on them. |

Turkeys.
I don't remember the last time Turkeys were featured in the flyers. I've been used to seeing them advertised at lower than usual prices around half a dozen times a year - definitely including approaching Canadian Thanksgiving, which is October 11 this year. But here were are, in the flyer period including 29th Sept and no sign of them. My local independent would usually have had something advertised by now about their fresh ones but not a thing. The frozen ones are in-store as usual but I'm used to maintaining a supply so that when the sales promotions come along I'm replacing the one we're about to eat, so always having the next one ready and waiting. But we had our last one at Easter thinking there would be a flyer deal in time for the next one and there's been nothing. We just bought one so we're sorted, but the last time I paid this much was because it was way bigger than normally needed. Is there an expected shortage? |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Maybe a shortage?
Processing plants have been up and down the whole pandemic, so could be possible stores can't get enough thus less willing to put what they do have on sale? I found reports of a shortage last fall, but nothing recent, although it has been more difficult to find the turkey based raw food we usually rotate through Charlees meals as the manufactuer of said food has had trouble getting turkey and kangaroo during the pandemic.
