Renting is such a pain, ffs what do they expect people to do for 3-5 hours each day for 3 days? They are replacing bathroom fans, and apparently will be done over 3 days, doing 3-5 hour sessions, kicker bathroom wont be available for use, 1 bathroom and no alternatives nearby, oh it's going to be highly stressful, I have IBS and cannot predict when it will flare up, happens 2-4 times a week.
The bathroom fan works fine, doesn't even look old, actually looks nearly new. lol |

I used to take it as well, it used to work pretty good, but in the last 5-6 years its not working much anymore, not sure why.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I haven't found droppings, but where the pipes come through the wall for the hot water radiators for the heat certainly big enough for a mouse to get through. I stuffed metal sos pads into the gaps, but Charlee smells or hears something, probably mice in the walls, one thing dachshunds excel at is smelling and hearing small rodents, they were bred to hunt such things so she can spent 12+ hours trying to find the source. Stubborn was born into the breed to.
Downside, I as a human cannot hear nor smell what she is hearing and/or smelling so I can easily figure out how to fix it so we can all sleep again. Quite possibly the most vile smell I have ever encountered, I opened the window and it hit me like a wall, window was open for like less than 15 seconds, and the smell is still in my nose, oh man is it vile. Smells like I can't even describe the smell, but its horrible. I hate this place so much sometimes. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
That smell lasted until 5am, still haven't any idea what caused it.

Maybe Amazon delivery and intelcom are competing to see which one can be the worst..
Lately Amazon delivery has been marking parcels as attempted delivery but not attempting to deliver, I have 3 in limbo that were supposed to be here Tuesday. I sit next to the window by the front door, I see delivery drivers if they actually come, so I know they are not actually even attempting.

I waited in all day for a UPS delivery, saw the truck roll up, spend a minute outside and then driveway. When I checked the delivery status online, it said no one was home. I was bloody furious so I downloaded the video clip and showed the manager at the depot when I collected the parcel the next day. They had no explanation as to why the driver did not knock on my door. |

Canada Post goes one further and will pre-fill out parcel slips, then not even bring the parcels with them and just dump the slips off.

Amazon cancelled my order, maybe the driver took off with the parcels.
We’re sorry there was an issue with your delivery and we are unable to complete delivery. We will issue a refund within 7-10 business days.No surprise there are so few dentists that will provide service at the ministry rate, the government hasn't increased them since 2004, while dental fees have climbed a lot in that time frame and why even if they do accept ministry coverage, why the fees are still so high after its deducted. $300-$400 for a new patient exam/cleaning after the ministry coverage is way too much still especially when multiplied by 2 people. |

Canada Post continues to astound me with their service. The order I made on Sunday night was processed on Monday and got to the Vancouver post office before 1500hrs, then made it to Richmond and was sorted the same evening. Now less than 48 hrs later it's out for delivery and should be waiting for me when I get out of physio. Outstanding!

Can I have some of your Canada Post luck? I have the polar opposite experiences as you do....
I suppose I did get my replacement parcel in 4 days from Calgary Xpress Post, but the original went to Nova Scotia, processed in Calgary, made it to Richmond in 2 days, then processed again and showed up a few days later in Nova Scotia, where it was delivered to someone. At the replacement the merchant sent only took 4 days.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
The fan they installed power wise no better than the last one, only difference is the new one comes on and off based on humidity in the bathroom and they removed the switch for it, works for me.
Thankfully we got lucky in the fact they redid our unit earlier in the year and put in a new fan then, so they didn't have to cut into our ceiling or anything, just pulled old out, put new in and done. The neighbor still has the old 1980's fan, and took them 4 hours to cut ceiling out, remove, install, and then they have to come back tomorrow to dry wall, then Friday to pain, but we get to skip those 2 days. Took about 90 minutes start to finish for our fan. Sucks for the barely old fan they removed, its probably getting scrapped. |

Summer time with a broken heater kind of sucks, upside a neighbor who was leaving gave us a portable air con, its old, and inefficient as its trying to cool as the heater is heating, but turned towards the bed, the little bubble around the bed stay cool.... Bedroom though is 28/29c/ |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
So not finders keepers then.
A pensioner in Germany has been convicted of illegal weapons possession after he was found to own an extensive personal arsenal including a tank. The defendant, 84, has been handed a suspended prison sentence of 14 months and has been ordered to pay a fine of €250,000 (£213,469). Officials found the tank and other World War Two-era military equipment at the defendant's house in the northern town of Heikendorf in 2015. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-58077039 So has it taken 6 years to get it to court or the BBC are slow in reporting the news. |

"On Monday, the court ordered that the defendant, who cannot be named under German privacy laws, must sell or donate the tank and an anti-aircraft cannon to a museum or collector within the next two years." Good grief, Helmut's got an 88! The Panzer looks like it's in decent shape. $300,000 is a hefty fine. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
We are not far off now that the promo pricing we had expired on July 31.
Speed test says speed is 583.16 down & 108.45 The promo price was good, but not worth $119/month. Upside we can downgrade to a cheaper plan, will save $14/month. This is what my dad gets for $116 US per month.
+ cable TV. He gets way better value than we do in BC I:rofl: Now if my income increased at the same rate food, gas, internet and everything else has, wouldn't be so bad, but income never seems to rise fast enough to keep pace. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...52359f75ff.png

Telus wont let us have service because we don't have credit worthy enough for the all powerful Telus King.. I would switch to the $90/month plan they have however the data cap is too low for our needs, we have been averaging between 550gb and 700gb of data per month now. The 3 alternative plans are these. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...481ce2c4f1.png |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Not like Telus is any better price wise. If your stable enough housing and financial wise, Telus will cut off $10-$15 per month if you sign a 2 year term with them. However Telus wanted a $500 deposit, and that is way more than we could ever afford, $500 isn't something we can just get, that takes a few months to save up, and really the savings isn't there with Telus to justify that.
We had tecksavvy for a bit, was around $60/month however it was a nightmare, non-stop problems, and they would blame Shaw, who would blame Teksaavy, and it was just a nightmare, we went several times 5-6 days without internet, and at the time my wife was working from home so it caused employment issues, total nightmare. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...8d2e737d1f.pngh |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Upside to chat support vs phone calls, don't have to wait on the phone or talk on the phone.
Downside is the chat agents almost surely are toggling several customers at once so it often ends up taking longer or its not really a human, sometimes I think its AI automation. "Welcome to live chat support! My name is Leo and I will be your Web Advisor for today. Hello, I hope you're doing well today!" "Understood sir Justin. let me check on this for you Okay sir, I have checked on this for you, sir." "Understood sir Justin, I've cancelled that for you already sir and cancelled that for you sir." I said have a nice day thank you. "Understood sir, sorry sir, i dont understand sir." Sometimes doesn't seem like a human writing, the above is an excerpt from a chat with support, just didn't seem like a human on the other end. The above just doesn't seem human written, anyhow the end result was still accomplished even with the weirdness of the whole thing. |

I recently negotiated a deal for my phone, reducing the montly cost down to $20 (for unlimited calls / texts / incoming calls and images/mms etc., and 1Gb of data), after repeatedly being told it would cost more than that for 250mb of data, with the first 'chat agent'. I used the old 'I think it's easier if I leave this company and go to one of your competitors - unless you want to pass me onto retentions.. They did, retentions supervisor gave me the 'care package' then they wiped off the remaining month's fees as a gesture of goodwill. You can really get to the point without listeniing to them make excuses, when you use the 'chat' :D |

You can really get to the point without listeniing to them make excuses, when you use the 'chat' :D I have pulled the well go check the your tape of my last call before, if the company is recording calls for quality assurance & training purposes, it usually works to get them to fix things, if they don't record it wont work, but all these big companies or their outsourced call centers do, they literally score agents on staying on script. I was always getting into trouble with my calls for going off script, usually they would pull 3-5 calls a week for each of us to randomly listen too. My average was 89% out of 100%, but the goal was to be at 99%, oh sorry I am not near perfect for this crappy minimum wage job with no benefits. And of course raises were based on having at least 97% accuracy. I wasn't purposely going off script, its just sometimes natural conversation ends up happening as some people are just really friendly and chat like crazy and there is no script for those, but I did learn to just put the talkers on hold which is what everyone did to keep their metrics up, another trick was because aside from the 30 minutes out of 10 hours you got for lunch, any bathroom break, or break to go get something to drink (wasn't allowed drinks at work stations.) each second on pause brought your metrics down, put someone on hold, run to the bathroom, that wouldn't hurt your metrics unless the person hung up and other calls came in and missed them. And we never knew how long people were on hold for, every other person, you know how long I was waiting, no I don't know, I know its busy though because there isn't even a 10 second gap between calls, on a slow day, you might get 30-40 seconds breather between calls. And unlike government our que doesn't close early to ensure we go home on time, hours were 8am to 10pm, but people could call in up to 9:59:59 and get in que, so our 2pm to 10pm was more like 2pm to 11pm/12am in reality. Never work in a call center, they are horrible places to be. |

Now I use one credit card, pay it off several times a month so I have a credit rating and pay no interest and I think there's a boomer plan that means no fees. I'm a boomer so always like to have cash but since the pandemic became used to using credit more often, and it does earn a few points. I won't even use a remote ATM from a 3rd party that charges for the withdrawl, not worth whatever it costs imo.
I am with you on the 3rd party ATMs. |
