The first time it feels like I'm getting ready to fly the U-2.

Why do you need compression socks Caretaker? Is it related to your injury and surgery? Just being a sticky beak as scouse developed a whopping DVT in his calf after spine surgery. He's had to get compression thingies too, although he's got the full stocking. He doesn't put it on, he swears it on. Including the measuring and fitting, they were $195 for the pair.
First pair $105CAD around 2011. I've tried all over to get cheaper ones including health product providers and Amazon. I've tried dropping the mmhg thing but they didn't do the job and I've ordered supposedly the same 20-30 and they very obviously weren't. I now order from a company in the US and with mailing costs converts to $45CAD a pair. They look 'normal' but to the touch you can see how elasticated they are and they snap back if you hook a finger in. They do the job just as well as the $105 pair but $45 for a pair of socks is crazy. |

He hates it (he only has to wear one, on the leg with the DVT). He's allowed to take it off at night though - the sound he makes when he does is similar to the one I make when I take my bra off - ahhhhhhhhh

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
The proper method is wear rubber gloves to avoid snags and for traction. Slide your foot into the sock as far as it will go, then gently tug it onto your foot, then "massage" the sock upwards using the flat of your hands on either side of your leg. Pulling on it in increments will position it in varying bands of tension, so not good. Knee length should come to 1" below the knee. When I was being assessed for the active gym portion of rehab, the therapist poked my legs and the dent stayed in like on bad fish.. He asked how my heart was and got the surgeon to prescribe the socks (20-30). One pair was under $90.

I only had to wear the one, thank goodness. I still use them when flying, although thanks to Covid that’s been 20 months. I get the bra thing…trust me a breast reduction will sort it out. ;)

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I've purchased the Dr Scholls 'diabetic socks' from Walmart for him to wear in the coldest months, which apparently aren't too bad, but they aren't compression enough to reduce the swelling. https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/dr-scho...=richrelevance |

I can understand you not wanting to wear the 'proper' compression socks with shorts, it wouldn't be the best look. Great that you've found something a bit more discreet (and cheaper!) that does the job. I'm not one to talk about the price of socks, when my sister was having chemo last year her feet were always cold so I bought her a pair of cable knit cashmere socks. $120  I'd be lucky to spent that on a whole outfit for myself
They're a great safeguard when flying. No way Pedro to the breast reduction, Thanks Caretaker, I'll read your destructions to scouse in the morning. Might save some swearing. Sounds like you got some very good post-op care  |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
The parcel saga is even more baffling than it appears. The merchant confirmed the address label was correct and had my address on it hence why it did make it to BC. The merchant got a call from Nova Scotia today from someone asking why they sent them a random package, Canada Post marked my address as incorrect, and then put a new label on it with the address in Nova Scotia, why Canada Post did this, don't know, but it did get delivered today in Nova Scotia.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Government is interesting in some ways, the effort the ministry puts in finding a way to not help with a one time emergency funds ($60) probably costs them more in the long run than just providing it if the person asking doesn't have a history of asking for said funds.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...mple-1.6101208 You would think that they could offer a saliva roadside test for those that can't use a breathaliser.. to be followed up by a blood test if it proved positive. (or a Urine test, if feasible to do one!) Something like these https://www.drugtestkits.ca/alcohol-tests.html |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
There is a court case waiting to be heard ................. a woman with breathing difficulties was asked to take the breathalyser test, told the officer there was no way she could do it. Was ordered to do it, obviously couldn't, so he did the same ........ suspended her license and the car was impounded.
So she's suing The case is waiting to be heard. |

Could you imagine flying across the Atlantic in an aircraft like this? Early aviators were brave souls.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...17b97f911c.jpg Photo of the Spirit Of St. Louis on its first flight during testing in San Diego, here it is seen departing what was then called Dutch Flats, which with time no longer exists, just concrete and traffic now. The city was inspired after this to build an airport which opened the following year, just a couple miles west of the above location, and named the airport Lindbergh Field, which the airport was called until 2003 when they renamed it San Diego International Airport. The airport is still in the same location as it was when it opened, although the passenger terminal moved to the opposite in the 1960's where the original 1960's terminal still stands. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...4af15b4e8f.png |

I do wonder sometimes what the purpose of these types of listings are from 3rd party sellers, surely nobody is going to spend 11k on a toaster over. Money laundering via Amazon? Oh well shipping is only $5.54

I guess these listings serve some purpose, I just don't know who would actually pay that price....so not sure what the purpose is for such listings. |

Contract Amazon delivery drivers are getting lazier and lazier I swear :sneaky:
This was my package getting thrown to the ground this afternoon, good job it wasn't 9AM with everyone at work all day. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Amazon has unrealistic expectations, low pay, and it's any surprise any of their stuff gets delivered these days.
Amazon has had people give up on the job middle of delivering, parking up the truck and walking away (for those who don't use their own car.) Not the worst I have seen, the videos on youtube with Amazon drivers can be entertaining. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Renting is such a pain, ffs what do they expect people to do for 3-5 hours each day for 3 days? They are replacing bathroom fans, and apparently will be done over 3 days, doing 3-5 hour sessions, kicker bathroom wont be available for use, 1 bathroom and no alternatives nearby, oh it's going to be highly stressful, I have IBS and cannot predict when it will flare up, happens 2-4 times a week.
The bathroom fan works fine, doesn't even look old, actually looks nearly new. lol |

That sounds silly, ooooh, maybe they're installing a different type. I had an issue like that at work where I had to make a new hole and reposition the duct. Still.... If the last 2 days are for drywalling it should still be useable other than those 3 -5 hr periods. Hang onto Charlee like she's a real killer so they hurry.
Day 1 Abatement (I assume removal of the fan etc) Day 2 Install new fan Day 3 Paint/touch up dry wall/repair drywall Sound like day 1 will be the longest and most pain in the rear day, they are going to give free refreshments for the inconvenience though. It's mostly the bathroom issue that concerns me, on a flare up day, I can need to go every 5-10 minutes for 3-5 hours, maybe my body will cooperate that day. |
