Mine cost £449 around the same time, including a free printer which impressed me until I saw it (the printer) on sale for a mere £20 a week later.

I wonder what the exchange rate was back then to the US$. I dunno if $449 pounds was a lot of money or not...
It was the second cheapest computer available back then. I always had a thing about not buying the cheapest but getting the next one up so as not to look obviously cheap  A mighty 3gb hard drive. Very slow on loading images but good enough for everything else, burning to CDs, booking holidays, flights to Canada and instant messaging chats with the Mrs-to-be. I wouldn't be where I am now if I didn't have it. |

I can't remember the exact specs to the one I had, I know it was Compaq and looked like this one, but don't know if it was the exact same one, but similiar. I kept it until 2003 when it finally stopped working. But yes back the connection speed not so great, waiting for photo load one line at a time. and the dial up to the internet. https://rubenerd.com/compaq-presario-5510-spaceship/ |

I don't remember the specs just the fact it was 3gb HD. At the time, whichever Windows it was (98 I think) was about half a gb so I reckoned 3 was plenty, even though the advice was a minimum 20. It was always well short of half full. |

Freddy Highmore during one of the years he was in Vancouver filming Bates Motel stayed at the corporate condos I was working at. We had lots of actors, music people, hockey players stay with us, upscale condos for long term corporate use, but most of our clientele were from film, TV and sports. Freddy Highmore was one of the nicest folks I have met from Hollywood, he would call down each morning to politely ask if the call sheet had been delivered. Was weird hearing him speak in his real voice though, since everything I have seen him in he is doing a generic US accent. Upside to working in certain types of hotels or corporate housing in the right city's, can come across a lot of actors. Met Dennis Farina while working at a hotel in San Diego, I think it was during comic con a couple years before he died, but maybe it was during another event, but he was super nice, he was with someone who wasn't so nice, and after they went up, Dennis Farina came back down alone to apologize about the other person, and gave us a gift basket of snacks. Bill Murray once in the 1990's when he was flying on a flight I was working, I said hi, he said hi..... Saw Mike Tyson on one flight to Las Vegas. Didn't meet but got a glimpse of him sitting in his seat, Jimmy Carter flew on us once, seems as of 2017 he was still flying commercial flights. At Vancouver airport in 2017 I think it was saw Seth Rogan boarding a flight I was working going to Los Angeles. He is from Vancouver and I believe his parents still reside in Vancouver. Upside to certain industries if your in the right city's. I did mingle with high rolling politicians when I was a kid, well state level California politicians..... But my grandfather was a politician, I remember as a kid probably around 10 or 11 when we went to visit him at the California Capitol and he took us into the areas the public wasn't allowed, for a kid it was something anyhow, just offices nothing exciting really...... He has been retired since the late 1990's though. |

Upset homeowners in Calgary about a driveway behind their houses.
They should go to Vancouver gasp there are laneways behind most houses and streets in front. |

Dying is expensive. Not planning to die anytime soon, but have been looking into the planning since eventually it will happen and I really don't want to be cremated, and would like a green burial, but holy moly expensive.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
When I was working the morgue was a small building separate from the lab, but the police had to attend coroners PMs, and it was common for new PC to be pranked. The favourite one was to tell the new PC to get on one of the trollies and be pushed into the morgue fridge as if he was a body, then when then door was opened he would jump out and shout suprise!. Well he got on one of the trollies and was pushed in. Now it's pitch black in there, and he hadn't been in more than a couple of monutes when a voice from the trolley next to him said 'It's a bit Bl**dy cold in here' result one PC shouting to be let out. He got of the trolly to find all his colleagues killing themselves laughing, then the PC got of the trolly next to him, where he had been placed before they came in. Was apparently a rite of passage for all new coroners PCs.

The more of these articles that show up, the more condos seem like they are simply a pain, especially when the strata board chooses to do nothing, and residents are forced to sue to get repairs done.
Residents of this building have 60 days to secure the financing, ranging from 100,000 to 150,000 per unit for repairs, a judge has ordered. |

The rolls used in Subway's hot sandwiches contain too much sugar to be considered bread, according to Ireland's Supreme Court.
Ireland's highest court made the ruling in a case about how the bread is taxed. An Irish franchisee of the US company had claimed it should not pay VAT on the rolls it uses in heated sandwiches. But the court ruled that because of the level of sugar in the rolls they cannot be taxed as bread, which is classed as a "staple product" with zero VAT. https://www.bbc.com/news/business-54370056 |

One dead other injured after a dam's spillway gate opened unexpectedly during maintenance.
Swift water rescue technicians were deployed to help rescue people trapped by the sudden release of water.between 1:15 p.m. and 2:00 p.m the water rose almost 12 feet. A leisurely day along the banks of a river can without warning become deadly. |

Good theory. Given how many others have it then somewhat surprising. |
