I wonder if Amazon just ships to this area once per week, every order I have placed since moving, always delivered on Thursday, if I ordered Wed or later then it comes the following Thursday.

Either its a coincidence or Amazon just does a weekly trip.

Vancouver Fire Dept Hazmat teams have been busy cleaning up mercury spills, several in the last 2 weeks. The latest one was not a small amount of mercury either, about 1 liter was spilled across the sidewalk.

I did it in about 1968 at Happy Valley near Calgary (now been swallowed by the city - I think you had to be 14 to go off the high tower). From the top, it looks like a long way down, and when you hit, you go right down to the bottom and it takes a while to come back up. I was terrified, but didn't want to climb back down, and I thought if I could do it once I wouldn't be afraid any more. Nope, I jumped 3 or 4 times, and it didn't really get any easier.

67 people were paid about $30 to jump, about 70% of those who made it to the top did eventually jump.

They noticed some jumped from social pressure of others below waiting their turn.

I think I would pass, too high for me.

Any idea what language the people are speaking?

Could be. People here in BC do the same, its very annoying and dangerous, especially on the 2 lane crummy highways we have.

When we were moving to Kelowna, on Hwy 1 just west of Hope, there was this car, she would speed up, then slow down, speed up and slow down, anytime I tried to pass she would speed up so I couldn't, then I would go back into the right lane and she would slow to 70 again, try to pass her and she would stay at my speed so I couldn't.

I finally got annoyed and just exited and waited 10 minutes so I didn't have to deal with her crazy driving.

I forgot to take my Zoloft last night, and if I miss a dose, I get crazy dreams, and last night was no exception, everything from battling sharks, to being friends with sharks, to being in random places selling jelly beans to people for some reason, so many crazy dreams, nothing scary, the shark battles were not as scary as they sound.

I take my Zoloft even though it doesn't do anything just to avoid tapering off.

Good luck Zoe, a month is good though, some doctors try and do it in 2 weeks which had never worked for me, but a month and you should hopefully be good to go.

This 11'8" bridge in the US gets hit so much, has its own youtube channel. Looks like they raised it last year, its 12'4" now but still not high enough...lol (lots of rental trucks, and with some of these companies even if you buy the insurance it often doesn't cover damage to the top because so many end up doing this to trucks, so your liable out of pocket.)

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread

I had no idea Canada in the mid 1950's to 1969 nearly wiped out the basking shark population.

They were very common in BC waters and the Canadian government considered them a nuisance so they devised an eradication plan to eradicate this harmless plankton eating shark from BC waters, using a special blade on the bows of vessels that would slice through the sharks to kill them.

It's estimated Canada wiped out 90% of the population of basking sharks that would migrate up the coast to BC in the summer from wintering grounds in Mexico and California.

Scientists estimate there are 300 and 550 of the sharks in the water between Mexico and BC, roughly 2 to 3 are spotted in BC each year.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...life-1.5758774

The basking shark is the 2nd largest living fish, the Whale Shark being the largest living fish, both are plankton eaters and no threat to humans.

That is pretty cool. I like seeing old sights like that.

When I go to ghost towns, I always try to visualize in my head what things were like in the towns heyday.

Wait til future humans discover our modern today landfills in hundreds or thousands of years from now.

I think my diapers from 1979 may still be in the local landfill where I spent my infant and toddler years. (google tells me disposable diapers in a landfill take a couple hundred years to decompose)

Snow already?

And an election there too?

This guy in the US, has a good idea to help cat box odor.

I am always amazed at the ideas people think of, I only found his website because I was bored and searched DIY cat littler box filter. Hopefully he can get some good marketing, its a good idea, but looks like he is pretty small operation still.

Yes the wood bought in stores for aquariums is crazy expensive in Canada, but there are a lot of rules and permits involved in importing the wood into Canada.

Almost any hardwood is suitable for aquarium use, many in BC go and collect their own, just don't use softwood, and never collect in an urban area, and best to find wood already in water submerged as it can take some wood months to sink.

Yep, first snow of the year for Regina, really, and they put the advance poll for the provincial election in the dining room of the Serbian Club right next to the bar, so I could have a beer and sign in for the honey pot right after voting.

I ordered items on Sunday and Monday on Amazon, they haven't shipped yet, say's arriving Monday and Tuesday next week but until shipped the estimated days are meaningless.
