Paradise, CA is pretty much gone.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Almost 3 weeks now and still not better. Think its time to see the doctor again.
Upside to whatever virus or whatever is causing this its a appetite suppressant. Or its something else and unrelated to the initial illness that seemed to be a flu or bad cold. |

There have been some really rotten bugs out there this year. One wiped me out for a good month over August. Battle on J. Battle on. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I fainted tonight. I got up to do something (cant remember what) felt dizzy grabbed onto a dresser and next thing I know on the floor in a pond of water. (knocked over the water cooler and 3 gallons of water.) Other then a sore shoulder I don't seem hurt.
I think I got up too fast, our couch is fairly low to the ground, and I am tall, and blood rushed from my head I suppose. |

The silly buggers have dumped 250,000 litres of crude oil in the Atlantic.

I was out of the province last week so my initial assumption was that the spill was related to coupling/uncoupling a shuttle tanker as previous, smaller spills. (The Sea Rose FPSO is a floating installation & oil produced is pumped into shuttle tankers to be taken to shore for transhipment to refineries). But this is very different - a leak somewhere in the sub-sea infrastructure. It has been rough here following last weeks windstorm (I landed in St John's at 5pm on Friday & the pilot told us that we were flying through salt spray at 1500ft altitude) so I get that they haven't been able to send a ROV down yet to see whats happening. However, the reality is that in the event of any major subsea problem, there is a paucity of equipment available compared to say Gulf of Mexico or North Sea and it can be bloody rough offshore. So if there were a serious problem, I think response would be a problem.

Interesting article, guy gets taken to hospital by paramedics, same paramedics 2 hours later attend a murder scene. DNA comes back and implicates the guy who was taken to hospital. In the end things were sorted and he never had to go to trial, but kind of scary could happen to anyone.

Stepkids were trying to work out the HST on something advertised at $260. (15%)
Well, $200 would be $30 so 15% of $60 is...uh...er... I say it's much easier to just take 10% and then halve that again. Silence. Then "OMG that is so easy!!!!" |

Smelled something burning could not figure out what, then a flash of flame shot out of the baseboard heater. Thermostat is set to off,so no idea why it was on. It tripped the breaker so seems to be off now.
Glad we were home, and glad the breaker did its job. |

With some of those pointy towers, looks almost like San Diego was trying to be the 80s version of Vancouver's role 'enough interesting architecture to be CGI'd (then matte-painting'd) into alien planetscape'... :)

I used to have a postcard that captured it perfectly from a trip there in 1978. But this is the best I can find now. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...9ae4d6f2f8.jpg |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
This was funny.
Footballer alive and well despite amateur club's report of his death Ballybrack FC had informed the Leinster Senior League (LSL) side that Fernando Nuno La-Fuente had been killed in a motorcycle accident. Their game against Arklow Town on Saturday was postponed, with a minute’s silence held before the league’s other fixtures.... |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Because of height limitations, San Diego can't have any buildings exceed 500 feet, this is due to FAA rules due to the proximity of the airport to downtown as well as Naval Airfield across the bay. Start the video at the 5:20 mark and you can see how close downtown is when landing.
A view of the downtown core, the other photo is the end of downtown where its mostly hotels, convention center and ball park. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...300f6e202c.jpg There are also places in San Diego were some of the original cemeteries have been lost to time....... https://www.sandiegohistory.org/grav...eath-our-feet/ In Old Town if you go to a certain street, you will see little bronze markers that say grave site. The Spirit of St. Louis the aircraft Charles Lindbergh flew across the Atlantic was built in San Diego as well. |

If we are approved and can come up with the deposit money, we might be able to move into a lower rent place in February, would save $250 a month in rent if we are able to.

This is a quite poignant but depressing article. To think that someone actually uses a phone as a phone. :confused:I use a mobile for work exclusively and give out that # now for new personal contacts. As a result, this month has been 1800 odd minutes of cell phone usage and about 180 texts (Imessage texts don't count) but the amount of mis-understanding and mis-communication that goes on via text only conversations is staggering. I do find younger people who call me don't leave a voice mail. My motto is if you can't be bothered to leave a message it can't have been that important. Often times when I call someone and leave a message they call back a few minutes later with 'you called" without having listened to the message. Is it that difficult to listen to a voice mail, absorb the information and if required respond with further information. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I hardly ever answer the phone. I dont have friends and my family rarely calls. I dont text much either although my wife texts her mom.
We are 15 days into our billing cycle and have used the phone for talking 23 mins. 35 text sent. 500mb of data used. Sometimes I wonder why we even keep a phone. Lol |
