Since you mentioned Guinness, what about Barley Wine topped up to a pint with cider?

Got smashed on that at the Bridgwater Carnival in 79 or 80 on an office do. I blame my (more than) friend Sue. Mass sickness absenteeism the next day, but I made it in.
Ewwwwww

Poor man's Black Velvet - Guinness and Cider isn't bad, can't imagine what it's like with Barley Wine!

Stones Ginger Wine - Whisky Mac - now that was lovely on a cold winter day!

Is that a cordless fan? Surely not, but I can't see any electrical connection. I would have killed for a battery fan, when I was a boy in Queensland.

It's connected to an exercise bike behind the wall and runs from pedal power.

You pedal like mad then leap off the bike to get around the corner and feel the breeze just as the fan stops turning.

How much did those things cost, I wonder.

My sister and I were given a toy, that was a plastic orange ball on two long bits of string with blue plastic handles either side, you would have a person on each end and open your arms to make the ball zip from one end of to the other, have no idea of what it was called and we used to play for about ten minutes wondering if it was supposed to be fun!

My nostalgia becomes charged up by the sight - regrettably rare, these days - of a VW Beetle (the real one, I mean, not the modern version). When I bought my first one, in Queensland in 1960, there were very few of them around, and we used to beep each other when we passed on the road. Then in 1963 I bought one in Germany and drove it the length and breadth of Europe - and down as far as Ankara, where I parked it in the Customs shed while my companion and I went hitching eastward. Three months later I re-connected the battery and it started at the second attempt.

What a gem of a car. In Mexico in about 2000, just about every taxi was a Beetle, which was nice to see. I don't think they're manufactured any more.

I remember a billboard in Ontario in the later 1960s that had the words "DON'T FORGET YOUR ANTIFREEZE THIS WINTER!" and down in the right-hand corner a small photo of a Beetle, accompanied by the words in small print: 'unless of course you're air-cooled'.

I didn't notice the lack of cord...lol I was just looking for a vintage looking fan photo of the older type my grandmother had and overall look is close but they all had cords.
