Maybe next door.
My scooter was one with chunky wheels. I used to scoot down a short road and then jump off and watch it go on alone.

the 1/- price tag on this one is a bit before my time, though, I seem to remember being cross at the price going up from 18p to 22p...

Not from my childhood, but from my early twenties... some friends and I spent an entire wet weekend on the south coast of Queensland playing Monopoly. Only many years later did I discover tournament monopoly and its rules, where the objective was to actually bankrupt all the other players within 90 minutes. My young son won the Cayman Islands Monopoly Championship (!) one Saturday morning by doing just that. His big reward was entry to the two-day World Championship in New York in 1985, where he finished in the middle of the pack. Aged ten, he lost concentration under the pressure of TV lights and interviews and general hubbub. The England chap won it, and his prize was US Dollars in the exact amount of money in a Monopoly set - $15,000 and change. They still hold World Championship tournaments - every three or four years; a Norwegian won it last time, I think. Any BE-er who fancies his or her chances should definitely go for it!

The thing I always remember about playing colditz was my Dad would put our names in a hat and the first name out would play the Germans. Years later I realised my Dad never put his name in

and he was always annoyed if the Germans won in even a small way. Hang up from the war I guess

Someone mentioned Meccano. From what my OH has said, it didn't seem to get over to US originally. So a couple of years ago, I got him a Meccano set to build a spitfire. Made his day!! I was so glad all the parts were still metal
