with all your bundles from Rogers, don't you still believe that you are being gouged?

If this is revised, how much are you paying before tax & what are all the services is it that you get... item by item, the cost of each - including #channels, PVR's, telephone lines, internet speed & bandwidth?

Total bill before tax?

Term of contract?

Price breakdown & features

- Cable TV
- Add on's
- number of Phone lines
- Cell phones
- internet

We just switched everything over to Rogers. No complaints.

Before:

Landline - Bell - upwards of $250 a month (office was paying for it, for 12 years I never saw the bill, now they have stopped paying for it and the drs are paying via their individual corporations) We had no plan on Bell and were paying between 0.20 and 0.45 per MIN of calls. Ridiculousness

Cable/Internet - Rogers - 165 altogether for 250mbps internet and extra plus cable

Cell - Telus - $470/month for 15GB of data shared between 5 lines

Total of over $800 a month for communications services.

After with all rogers services

Landline: $40/month
Unlimited Canada-wide calling
500 minutes to any international destination
6 calling features
Cable: $80/month
Extra Plus + Super Channel/HBO
Internet: $75/month
250Mbps download/20Mbps upload w/ Unlimited usage
Cell phone
$320/month for 16GB of data across 4 lines + 2 iPads (5th line that was TELUS before paid for individually by the office for the secretary on its own account number/plan)

Cell phone is especially good with Rogers Roam Like Home which lets us use data in 100+ countries for $10/day.

Then add that all together, take off a 12% discount for having all 4 services with Rogers, we are paying $450/month for all of our services before tax. $515 after tax. That's impressive.

Over the past year and a half or so i've been on this project of getting all our services over to Rogers, and so far i've no complaints and the retentions dept has been nice as well.

We have asked shaw to match both their new customer and telus promotions but they wont. They just offer to cancel of we are not happy with the price.

Seems Shaw doesnt feel any need to retain us.

I figure it because we are always calling to try and find ways to reduce the bill.

Telus wants a high deposit to provide service so they are not a real option.

Its shaw or nothing it seems.

Wife spent a better part of 2 hours with shaw, they would not budge on reducing price on the previous services.

So we just dropped to skinny package and 1 theme pack and went to internet 5 which is 10 less.

We used a whole 6gb last month so 65gb should be sufficient limit.

My suggestion is to call into their cancellation department (when prompted say 'cancel' or press the # prompt for cancellations), tell them of a better deal with the rival (get a deal detailed by the rival for a new customer for a package deal with all savings 'special deals' included) and ask them to counter.

Most people blindly accept the price increases and rip off prices but the customer acquisition costs that these companies have is large and they want to keep you as a customer. Paying your bill on time helps you get these deals, many of which are not advertised.

Don't accept the pricing that is shown in the Telus or Shaw store or on their website.

I must admit all this talk of limits, caps, whatever for bandwidth, data totally bamboozles me.

We've had our internet with BellAliant since we moved here in 2005 and I've been blissfully unaware of any kind of restriction, even before we went fibreoptic.

Didn't someone - JS, maybe - once say something about watching a couple of movies on Netflix taking up their "allowed" use for a month or something? Unless paying extra to up the max allowed.

Isn't it a bit like the phone company saying you're only allowed 12 phone calls a month?

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC

Easy wasn't it to give those numbers.

Now wait & see if 'partially discharged' can post his numbers?

That is why I went away from Cable TV operators, land line providers & stuck with a basic $19/mth province wide cell phone & a great Bell fibre to the home internet

I cannot stand the '12 or 24 month contracts, the beg, hassle, nuisance [customer retention department] calling, hype

Yeah when I did the experiment last year and watched netflix as I would TV in a day, at the end of the month it was something like 300 or 320gb.

So an upgrade to internet 60 for 93 would be required.

Add in the netflix cost and dns cost to try and watch US and UK netflix is no cheaper then cable + internet plus you will get no local network or US network lile ABC, NBC, CTb and the like.

As I always said about streaming the cable companies will just jack up internet costs making streaming no cheaper and they did.

I rather have basic cable + 1 theme back and basic internet then netflix as I watch quite a lot of network TV.

Ill add we have no contract with shaw and never have. The contract thing they are doing now seems to be fairly new.

What got me is the same service in Chilliwack is 40 more per month vs Squamish. Exact service we had in Squamish 102 here 140 hence why we downgraded.

could this OP simply be an extension of the original thread on the same subject?

I always wondered if we could cut back on phone. We have no cell phone - never had the need for one and the phone at home is busier with cold callers/automated calls (despite being on the 'do not call' list) than proper use.

But I see if I converted fibreop phone/tv/internet to just tv and internet it would be about $5 less. I can't see an alternative phone system for less.

Admittedly that's a three year special price on all three. When it reverts to the 'usual' price cutting the phone after three years might save around $40, so I could look again.

$93 extra?

Hard to get my head around.

Sorry. Not extra jusy moving up from 53 month with a 65gb limit to 93 month for 300 something gb.

So streaming could actually cost more once the higher internet is added in, once netflix is added and since Canada netflix sucks also have to add in the DNS service or whatever its called and of course loss of the network channels which I do watch.

Right...so an extra $40. Still a significant amount.

I've never really followed this Netflix Canada thing. People on BE have sometimes referred to what's on USA but not Canada and the stuff I can access suggests the USA version. But I have access via computer so maybe there's no distinction.

Aside from all the ways of watching via computer to TV (downloaded onto thumb drive or HTML cable to TV) the kids have a PS3 attached to the TV and they can access Netflix through that. And now with fibreoptic internet TV Netflix is also available as a result of the computer subscription.

The $11 a month to Netflix means I can watch House of Cards/House of Lies on my laptop while the others watch whatever they want on Netflix on TV.

One option I would like to see is being able to swap French stations for something useful and vice versa.

We have at least 3 or 4 french channels which we dont need or want and would be nice to swap those for something we do want.
