Re: New Skinny Basic 25$ cable TV
So, is it now $75 for all the same channel line up as what you had when you paid $100, but only now have one receiver (STB)?

Re: New Skinny Basic 25$ cable TV
Yes
No. I originally priced it as $50 then upped to $60 for the extra two receivers. Then $75 as I remembered the $100 included that other channel at $15.

I might get away with this. If they can stream stuff off the net I think I can pretty much dispense with pay TV as I have no need of it. I'm sure they'll have the full suite of channels at their mums, they can do their TV watching there.
on the digital OTA are primarily network stations, nothing kids specific channels other than the mornings, Saturdays that you'd get on CBC ch5 Toronto, TVO ch 19, PBS ch 17 all which is what comes in crystal clear.
Only one channel 51-2 as I can see is kids specific Qubo
Qubo Schedule - Qubo | TV Programming for Kids
The kids channels that you likely are looking for is what are premium services on cable TV- such as BBC kids etc
O.T.A Over the Air Channels in HD from Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, Scarborough, DTV HDTV Channels with Over the Air

See that's all gobbledygook to me, I don't even know what current TV shows are (I like watching Big bang Theory and Modern Family on aeroplanes...).
Anyhow when the time comes I'll see if I can screw a deal out of BELL, otherwise it's going to be OTA + probably techsavvy for internet.

And for grown-ups there's often some good current-affairs content on The Agenga at 8.00; Steve Paikin is no Paxman or Dimbleby (I think I actually prefer stand-in host Piya Chattopadhyay, especially as I get extra points for being able to spell her name...) but just occasionally in amongst the fluffery he actually gets politicians to give a direct answer to a simple question.

When it comes to this kind of stuff people ask if we have a smart TV -I answer it's only as smart as it's owner.
We have a Panasonic with all the relevant ports (I think)- It has a button for internet but that just comes up with You tube, Vevo (whatever the hell that is) and Netflix - no browser or anything like that.
If someone could come round and give me an idiots guide that would be lovely.
I'm sure we could get away with the basic channels, as long as there is something for the little one to watch as we mainly watch Netflix.

based on the pdf link on the basis that you go with the $24.95 skinny package, have you figured out what its NOW going to cost you for what you regularly watch with the added theme packs?
Exclude the box rental or tax
All of this Rogers, Shaw, CRTC crap is the reason I no longer have cable TV

Our monthly bill is $73 + HST for cable which includes a PVR and for 2 TV's in the house. Many of the channels allow you to watch them online which is good.
The only way to get decent pricing with Rogers (or Bell) is to go 'off list' and secure a retention pricing plan to stop you from either switching to the competition, cutting the cord or just downloading everything.
If it was just me living on my own, I'd reduce the # of channels and probably ditch the land line.

Me being old, I'm not what you'd call a techy by any stretch when it comes to social media, texting, we don't text, no calling waiting, call display, messaging, no camera on the phone - not sure if any of those fetures are on on the cell phone plan, because we dont use or do any of it.
Even the computer, my old Dell laptop with XP windows, no camera on that, so no face to face communication... we are total dinosaurs
We still have an old glass screen 28" TV as the main telly, no netflix either
Simples, with the OTA digital indoor antenna on the wall, use the TV guide posted in my last post above.
No Netflix, or a VPN DNS service either etc etc

Re: New Skinny Basic 25$ cable TV
I've already ditched the landline and realistically, when the sprogs aren't around, the TV will stay off. I'm quite happy going to the pub for the 16 NFL games I'd like to watch a year.

We did the same with our land line. We have cell phones, the only people who called our LL was the 5pm sales guys.

Re: New Skinny Basic 25$ cable TV
We ditched the cell for a landline. Lol
10/month from shaw for landline sure beats 40/month for a cell.
We have no real need to have a phone everywhere we go.

How do you run BBM/Whatsapp/SMS etc to keep up with all your friends around the world? I hardly use a phone for talking, and that's all landlines are good for.

Re: New Skinny Basic 25$ cable TV
I dont use any of those apps. I use FB for keeping up with people I know and the cell itself is good for wifi and internet still.
I dont talk on the phone much and cant recall the last time I called someone but a phone is still essential for things like doctors offices calling, or when looking for a job etc. Those types of things email, texting is useless for.
We were just paying so much for cell service and everything we used the phone for, we can still do with just using wifi at home.
There is nothing so urgent that we must be in contact 24/7 and its quite nice to go out and not feel connected.
